Default Which Sub, Dual 2 or Dual 4

I have an American Legacy Amp, it can be seen here. http://www.savinglots.com/lotprod.asp?item=LA590
My amp is either 1x800w or 2x400. The specs can be seen on the link shown above. The amp is 2 ohm stereo stable, or bridged into 4 ohms.

I will be running 1-10" sub on it in a stealthbox. I will be buying a JBL sub, but I don't know if I should get the dual 2ohm sub or the dual 4 ohm sub. The sub is rated for 1000w max and 250w rms.

I was thinking I want the dual 2ohm sub that way I can wire both channels to the sub and achieve 2ohms correct?

Your amp may claim 800w, but it's not gonna go anywhere near there. American Legacy is a sucky "avoid" brand.

HOWEVER, if you want to try and use it, get a dual-2 sub, put the coils in series for 4 ohms (how could you get 2 ohms from dual-2? You can't!) and run the amp bridged.

There's 2 channels on the amp, each channel is rated for 400W max at 2 ohms. There are 2 coils on the sub. So if you wire one channel to each coil you should be able to have 2 ohms to each coil. I've been reading some stuff on wiring diagrams and I've found some stuff saying you can wire the coils independantly, I just wanted to see if anybody has done it on here.

If you are running one 10" sub, the dual 2 ohm will be the correct choice with an amp that is 4 ohm stable (bridged). The coils will be wired in series to achieve the 4 ohm load for the amp (bridged mode).

agree with the dual 2 ohm wired in series with the amp bridged.. ive always heard not to use 2 channels on a dvc sub... rockford fosgates website has a wiring diagram if you wana see different ways of wiring subs and the load they will produce

i had that amp about 8 years ago when i was young and dump on car stereo. Trust me that amp will sound like crap no matter how good your sub and box combination is. If price is a big deal go used and name brand. Stay away from american legacy, pyramid, pyle etc. U will get alot clearer louder bass with brands such as kicker, rockford fosgate, sound stream, memphis ( personal favorite ), JL overpriced but great sound quality, jbl i found is a hit or miss brand. Just my .02. These are all brands i have had there are other good brands im sure these are the ones ive had.

Yep, you didn't list all good or all brands, but all those you did list are categorized correctly.

Avoid: Audiobahn, Bazooka, Boss, Jensen, (American) Legacy, Lightning Audio (Rockford is OK, this is their lower end division and it sucks), MA Audio (well, most of it - HK4000d is good stuff), Power Acoustik, Pyle, Pyramid, Sony, SoundStorm (not to be confused with SoundStream), Visonik

That's a generalization that doesn't always apply. There's no reason he can't run the two channels of his amp to the two voice coils of his sub as long as they run off a single input (i.e. don't have left and right inputs to the amp that might have different signals). The Monsoon amp in the Firebird is wired exactly that way - separate output channels for each of the sail panel subs' voice coils.

Good, because regardless of what you think, Boss is junk. It's fact, not opinion.

Like it's mentionned earlier, American Legacy claims a lot of things, namely there power. I know as I have one installed in my TA. BUT they do work and they are cheap, cut there specifications by half and go with that. Sometimes a cheap amplifier like that will work no matter what and will never stop. I have a 10" DUAL-2 ohms plugged in series 4 ohms. Runs good with a lot of BASS....sometimes too much!!! have fun!
