Question Has Anyone Done This Stereo Set-Up?

I'm ready to pull out all of the stock stereo crap in both of my cars.

Has anybody tried this set-up:

Just a decent headunit with 50 watts per channel and I'd like 25+ RMS watts.

Then I'd buy just some decent speakers that can handle 25 RMS watts right from the headunit for the door panels and sail panels, and then for bass have that MTX Amplified ThunderForms that has a built in amp.

So has anybody tried this, and did you like it?

Also I heard there is now a headunit that will work by itself with the steering wheel controls, and not using that PAX adaptor. Any truth to that?

Thanks,
Craig.

There's that sub/amp combo for about $200 less.

EDIT: I really don't have any input as far as how it will sound/work. Just thought I'd show a better price.

I have heard that sub, just with a different amp. Sounds good.

Head unit will only put out about 16 watts rms. People have done it, but it doesn't sound good.

Not really, I've seen about a dozen or so head units with 50 watts each channel and 20+ RMS per channel.

This one is 25 RMS watts:

haha, I'd bet money on that head unit not putting out 25 watts.

Either way I'd spend my money on a stealth enlcosure and a seperate amp before I'd get the powered thunderform. They are rather dissappointing on power( I can guarantee it is no where near 200watt rms). You'd do alot better with a non-powered stealth enclosure and and an amp of decent quality. I've had the non-powered Thunderform with a RF HE2 sub and a RF 120.2 bridged that would put that to shame. I'm not just talking rap type bass but actual SQ as well. Very versatile. I'm sure your not trying to blow the windows out or anything but if your gonna do it you may as well spend it on decent stuff!! As far as the Blaupunkt HU..you can do way better for the money...examples:

This was just a few in that $300.00 price range...HU's are all relative to what you like though!!! I was just comparing feature for feature when I say you can do better!! Good luck!

Ya its probably not putting out 25rmsx4 because a brand like alpine has 50x4 which is 18rms either that alpine is under rated and the other one is over rated.. as far as putting a new stero.. good luck.. Im in the process of one on my car.. When I replaced the head unit with a Alpine CDA-9856, $170 w/ipod connector NEW, the speakers still worked but sounded like crap because the 500 watt amp still was powering the speakers because I didn't run new wires... The best thing to do is re-run new wiring and get some good speakers including 6.5 mid bass speakers w/amp and it will sound sweet.. I spend 500 dollars for the whole set up which is Alpine Deck, Alpine 6.5/6x9 speakers SPS models, Kicker SSMB6 6.5 subs w/a SONYŽ 480 WATT XPLOD amp... not a bad deal, oh ya everything was new... I figured never going to replace it again anyways.. good luck..
