Default sub boxes on Ebay?

A buddy of mine is looking for a sub box.Either a stealth or a dual 10 or 12 inch. I told him to look into subthump, but he has found some boxes on ebay that go for around 80.00 bucks that hold two 10 inchers. What kind of quality can these be?

They aren't that bad if they are made of at least 3/4" mdf. Alot of those are made of 5/8" mdf which isn't as strong. Subthump makes a quality product!! The other boxes are mass produced and sold at wholesale places. Some are ok and others are junk. Check the quality of the materials the other guys are using and go from there.

So basically,if they say they are made of 3/4,they may be ok? I'm still trying to get him to go with subthump.I believe you get what you pay for.

If it's 3/4 mdf construction and the guy has sold quite a few...check the feedback. If that looks good you should be ok. Most of the ones I looked at when you mentioned this didn't even mention what size they were...just mdf. That tells me they were 5/8's. Just do your research...if not...just go with the subthump and take the guess work out of it!!

That's decent..it even has the seams filled pretty well it looks like. Is he trying to win shows or just have a decent system?? If show quality is what he's going for Subthump all the way...if just a nice system...buy that. By the way..I saw that one just didn't read the fine print..LOL!!

According to their measurements, the box is 5.6 cubic feet... they are lying out of their asses.
Auction doesn't state what size wood it is made from.
Why does it fit 96 and up? What about 93-95? Makes no sense.
Designed and built for the deepest bass? Wtf kind of marketing gimick is that?
100% deeper bass than conventional enclosure? What the hell is a "conventional" enclosure and how is theirs any different?

Those guys sound like they don't know a damn thing about box building. I bet thats not even their box in the picture.

Don't waste your money on that. Build it yourself or get one from subthump.

Actually Bat right under the picture it says "dual 12" Sub Box - made with 3/4" MDF". I've seen these boxes before and no the guy selling them probably doesn't know a thing about them...they are mass produced bought from a wholesaler. These guys don't know dick about our cars or what year goes with what for the most part. However, like I said..I've seen them. I've been to the wholesale outlets where these guys buy them...for about $15.00-$20.00. They are all about the same except for 2 things.
1. Partical board vs. MDF construction..in this case this is MDF apparently.
2. 5/8 vs. 3/4....the cheaper ones use 5/8 crap
"Designed and built for the deepest bass"..uh yeah that's a marketing gimmick. So are half the adds on ebay or any other description where a person is selling something. You seem to forget that MOST people are not car audio savvy. Why do you think Pyramid, Pyle, Lanzar, etc. are still in business??!! Because people believe the 1000watt label on the amp or sub. I have subthump enclosures and I like them just fine but honestly they didn't fit very well either. They make good stuff but not the end all be all of car audio enclosures. Try some decaf!!

Short of hitting him on the head with a ball bat,I think I have him talked into going the Subthump route. I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for. Sure that ebay box is cheap, but how is the build quality? Is it going to start falling apart a month from now. Anyway I have subthump getting me a package deal on a stealth enclosure, sub and amp. I hear that the ED subs SLAM.So,I think he may need to go that route, just to be positive he is getting quality stuff.

That sounds like a winner!! Package deal should work well...especially from Subthump as they know what works with there equipment. Like I said before...takes the guess work out of it.
