Default Avic-d2

anyone have one installed in a firebird or trans am? ive wanted it sooo bad for liek 2 years now and im going to get serious about it right now. Im going to save up and buy one in about a month. Its a double din so will i have to custom install it or is there a kit? can people please post pics and share your experiences. I know a lot of people have the avic-n1 n2 and even n3 but i want the d1 or d2. I dont want a fold away monitor. the avic-d2 is the same as the avic-n2 except its a diouble din static screen as opposed to the n series that has the fold in monitor

Get a Avic-Z2 instead ... its a static screen also. I know its pricey but you don't have to load navigation DVDs and crap, I hate that. Also the hard drive is pretty big so you can load it up with images or store mp3s on there. It would be awesome to upload a T/A logo and have it appear when you start your car (or Camaro, etc). I plan on getting the Z1 because its the single din version and I want to put a humount along with it. Have to get the lettering on the humount on the bottom though so the screen doesn't cover them but should be cool, ill post pics when its done.

Well I have no intentions of relocated my AC controls but I am obscenely jealous of your system, someone did an excellent job on converting that to a double din / single din. That's def 1 of the best ones I've seen yet...

the avic d2 does have the hard drive your talking about, but its an option as opposed to a completely different model like the single dins. I do plan on getting the hard drive.

Well thankyou, I did all that my self. Took me about 3 months to finally get it how I wanted it. It is a really nice setup and people all the time ask me how I did that.

is it necessary to have the avicd1 and a head unit? or for some reason did you just want it that way? becuase the stock pinoeer unit has a cd player as well as a stereo right? where did you put the ac controls?

No the head unit is not needed. The reason why I have the head unit is for DVD's. The pioneer does not play DVD's.

Here is a pic of my hastly installed HVAC controls:

7th darkeness the avic d2 does have built in dvd player, but you have to modify it. Itll play dvds when its parked wont it? well either way, it has a dvd player i just cant remember how exactly you have to modify it. It has a stupid safety thing that disables the dvd player but it IS there. Ill do some research but i dont know when ill have time so if i were id start looking around as well. I think i found a write up on corvetteforums.com

If it requires you to take the unit apart you can forget about the warranty and at a grand I would not want to take that risk... and yes it plays DVD's.. only the GPS DVD which is in a diff format than a normal DVD.
