Default Stereo question/problem

I have a 2000 T/a w/ the moonsoon stereo, and i am looking to replace the two 6.5" subwoofers. I know that they are DVC, and i am looking at a CDT audio subwoofer SVC and i was wondering if i could possible combine the DVC wires togather to get a SVC?
Also what Ohms is the moonsoon subwoofer?

They are 4 ohm DVC (so 4 ohms per voice coil).

No, cannot combine wires in any way because they are powered by separate channels of the Monsoon amp.

For Firebirds especially, I recommend Elemental Designs eu700s since they are DVC subs.

According to my service manuals, one of the voice coils is 2 ohms and the other is 4 ohms. I always thought it was bizaare, but that's what the books say (for '99 TA anyway).

Hopefully someone else can come up with a more certain answer about the DVC wiring, but I would THINK that if the signals in those two wires were perfectly in phase with each other, you should be able to combine them... I guess it would be like bridging 2 amplifier channels in another system. Unfortunately, my strength is in digital circuits, not analog, so I just can't be sure what would happen.

If you don't mind having to replace your amp if you fry it, give it a shot and see what happens. Just watch out for smoke.

Yes, the service manual shows the Firebird subs as DVC 2-ohm/4-ohm but we have found from experience that they are actually the more normal 4-ohm/4-ohm. It appears to be a misprint in the manual that might be related to the fact that Camaros have 2-ohm SVC subs.

No, the channels of the amp are not bridgeable so don't combine the two pairs of wires. Just use one pair or the other for your SVC replacement speaker. Most have had the best results using the longer of the two pairs.

And remember...there's only so much smoke in electrical components - once you let that smoke out the thing won't work anymore.

ok, so i guess i should get a 10" stealth box by subthump.
But could i put a mid-range speaker where that 6.5" sub use to be? And run wires from the rear 4" speakers to the place where the 6.5" subs were in place of a mid-range?

Yes, you can do that. Or, as fredmr39 said, the EU-700s make a nice plug-in replacement for the factory subs.

That makes a lot more sense.

Since it will work... How would i wire it, not where, but in which way would i have to wire the 4" speaker with the new 6.5" speaker so that the amp wont blow? Any suggestions?

oh.....you want BOTH? -can't do that effectively

just pull a pair of wires forward for the sails (probably woofer wires -- try both component wires though).

You could parallel SVC 4-ohm speakers (or DVC 2-ohm with each speaker in series) if you wanted, but having that many speakers will only make the sound quality worse, IMO.
