Default sail panel speakers

one of my sail panel speakers died. i have a 97 t/a with the monsoon system. the speaker looks to be a 1 way 6.5" speaker. any good aftermarket replacement speaker to put in its place or should i look for another set of stock ones?

please search....been discussed A LOT lately (and you'll find a lot more info than what would be re-created in your thread here)

IMO tho, your best option is the eu700s by Elemental Designs.

I bet at least 20% of the questions asked in this forum have to do with sail panel speakers. Shows how effective stickies are, I guess.

The stickies are for Monsoon systems -- it references 97's in the stickies....but yea most Monsoon systems are in LS1s if that's what you meant -- Monsoon started in '97 though.

The stickie, frankly, sucks. I am looking for aftermarket replacements for the sail panel speakers and the 2 models it suggests aren't even made anymore. Can anybody reccomend a CURRENT aftermarket speaker for the sail panels that is a reasonable price. It is my understanding that they are 6.5" dual voice coil woofers.

I carry some nice replacements as well and offer packages tht replace doors and sails for both the Camaro and the Firebird as they differ quite a bit. I also have entire systems that replace everything if you want the highest in sound quality.

eD 7kv.2 dual voice coil subs work well in Firebirds.

The Rockford Fosgate P162S is nice but is a component set of speakers with crossover and tweeters. They don't sell the 6.5" 4ohm midbass by itself. It is a single voice coil midbass as well just like all the others with the exception of the eD which isn't a midbass it's an actual subwoofer.

They would work but not as well as the others. They are only single voice coil and Firebirds use dual voice coil subs. That means that you would be leaving a channel disconnected on each side - a significant reduction of power.

I don't know anything about stereo i just listened to them in best buy and bought them. The tweeters can be removed on them. since those speakers only get bass i took the tweeters off and I'm probably going to find a way to mount them where the stock tweeters are in the door. I have infinities with tweeters in the 6.5 door slots but I left the stock tweeters in there also. There blown so im gunna replace them with the tweeters I took from the Rockfords. Confused Yet?

Actually, that makes some sense!! LOL!! A little tweeter overkill but it should work fine. Keep in mind the tweeter itself maynot be blown though in the stock system. The stock crossovers are more likely to go bad then the tweeter itself. That's what happened to my stockers years ago. Hooked a new capacitor to the pos. wire on the tweeter and cut the crossover out..worked fine again. So if you hook your new working tweeter up to the factory wiring and it doesn't wound good or sounds blown still...it's your crossover. They are located in the door right by the tweeter wrapped in black foam and the factory connector goes right to the and the to your tweeter. Good luck!!
