Please don't start that one again... lol.
Subwoofer size does NOT matter when referring to the response of a speaker, transient response is important, not moving mass.
A 10 can sound sloppy and a 15 can sound tight and punchy, it all depends on the speaker and the box.

How do you respond to children... And I really don't care what year you were born. It's funny how a person can be so helpful in one thread and such a jerk in another.

Maybe I should turn my hearing aids down before blasting the stereo...

Of course you can get deep bass out of a 10. Just have to lower the VAS which is done by the box.

Go with the manufactures recommendations for the lowest roll-off which is usually a sealed application.
It can be done, if you have the box room. Not much space there for large boxes in fbodies or vettes. It's just easier to produce lower frequencies from larger subs. Assuming your using a respectable brand name. Same as it's easier to make more torque from a v8 than a v6. Not saying it can't be done, just easier.

You're the first person to ever go deaf from a 10 with basically no power going to it, hence my reaction. Your first reply was no model for maturity either, bud.

Agreed. It is possible, but easier with bigger subs. I think it is easier to make a 10 sound good than to make a V6 fast though

I have a Stealth box with a SoundSplinter RLi 10" and it sounds great. Check them out at http://www.soundsplinter.com/rli10_s...formation.html

Sound quality isn't just going to depend on the size of the subs. I have a xplode amp and two rocksford fosgates, with bose performance wiring. It sounds very good, cleaner bass (though not louder) than most other setups i hear.

A few years ago, i had a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4-10inchers, 2-1000 watt amps, and rockford fosgate competition wiring. I couldn't turn the volume up past 20 without setting off alarms from a good distance away. :-D

Whatever you decide to go with, make sure you get a nice amp and powerful wiring so the watts will actually be delivered to the subs.

It was already mentioned, but I think TC Sounds TC-10 OEM is worth taking a hard look at. I have one sitting on my floor in my den... Still over a month before I'll get to install the darn thing.

I'm telling you, I have 2 JL 10w3v2's in my Camaro and 2 12 MTX's in my firebird. The JL's hit way cleaner and fire much more accuratly than the MTX subs. The JL's pound tons harder and set off car alarms all day long. Because of that, I just got rid of the MTX subs for 2 kicker 10's.

As long as you get the right amp and wire everything up right, 2 10's will sound just as good.

phantom that has nothing to do with woofer size, it has to do with the woofer itself (if that makes sense). You're comparing JL, which is known for awesome SQ, to MTX, which isn't known for anything.

It's not a matter of 10 vs. 12, its JL vs. MTX.

Look into the SSD line or the Q line. I have 1 Resonant Engineering SX 15" (very similar to the Q-line) in my Yukon, 5.5 cubes ported at 33hz... ***** out the frame.

The Q-line has really nice quality even if it's in a sealed box, but comes alive in a ported enclosure. I would really consider getting the SSD line if you're wanting to add a nice clean, thumpy tone to it. If you want a whole lot of SPL, you're gonna have to sacrafice and go ported.

Just a little info on Fi...

Scott (the original engineer for Resonant Engineering) sold his share of Resonant Engineering to David, the current owner of RE. Scott took his cash and started his own business, Fi Audio. The products he puts out are just as good or better than Resonant Engineering, especially since they just sold out to US Amps. they REALLY like their products now (high prices).

Shoot Scott an email...

Whatever brand you decided to go with, dont go with Sony xplod or rockford fosgate. Xplod sounds like ****. Rockfords dont sound much better, and they blow easily. JL is awesome. Kicker is pretty good, very loud. Infinity is very clear but not that loud. There are plenty of other brands that I'm sure are good. those are the only ones I've had experience with.

Here are my suggestions, in order of price from one specific site that carries all the subs I was looking at, there may be cheaper places for them:

JL Audio 10W6V2 400WRMS $309.99

Boston Acoustic G51044 450WRMS $279.99

JL Audio 10W3V3 300WRMS $189.99

Boston Acoustic G21044 300WRMS $129.99

I have only used an SPL meter on the G5, not on any other sub I've used. I have a very high opinion of JL Audio and would have a W6 if the shop I went to was still an authorized dealer (they only had open boxes). Holding an SPL meter where my ear is in the car, the G5 hits the 126dB max of the meter easily. Where I normally have the volume it runs about 113dB on heavy bass songs. These aren't constant numbers, it depends heavily on the song. The CD's I've used are Akon-Convicted, Mike Jones-Who is Mike Jones, and 50 Cent-The Massacre, just for reference. Rap has the heaviest bass.

If you want something that sounds good always, and can hit it when you want it, go for the G5.

witHonor, I'm not trying to pick on your or anything, but I just don't agree with you here. Two things to tell you, first, the handheld meters aren't very accurate. The Term Lab is the standard for car audio SPL measurements. Second, the G5 is a decent sub, but with price being considered the OEM10 is a MUCH better sub. Even without the price considered i would still take the OEM10 over the G5. If you look at the actual T/S parameters, the ones advertised on woofersetc are all wrong. It has low xmax, low Bl, higher Fs, and low sensitivity for the power it handles. For an SQL system with our stealth boxes the OEM10 is a very hard subwoofer to beat.

michaelg - sony does suck. Rockford makes very solid amps, but their speakers are middle grade stuff.

Here's another pic I found of a guy at G11. I was VERY impressed with this install. It uses 12's and if you were to modify this design a bit you may be able to use the trunk for T-top storage. Not the T-Top holders themselves given the amount of overhang the enclosures have but enough room to store them. This is probably one of the nicest stealth styled enclosures I've seen.
