Remote Start

I have a remote start from a third gen i never used, and was wondering whether or not i coud use it on my 99 TA. If i get a bypass, it might work? Someone let me know...

is your car A4 or M6? if it's A4, it should work easy, probably just need the bypass for the key resistor. if it's M6, it can still be done....you will just want to make sure that you never, ever leave the car in gear, and use the parking brake instead.....(ask me how i know

)

it's an A4. so it will work, and wont be hard to do? do i need to get someone to do it, or can i do it myself?

assuming you have all the parts that came with it when it was new, then yes, it should work (although in some cases, extra parts are needed to bypass the key resistor).

personally, i would have a shop do it for you........just make sure it's a reputable shop, and preferably one that also carries the make/model of the remote start that you have.

i have the bypass as well. how much do most shops charge for the install?

no idea on that...each shop is going to charge their own prices for labor/installation....you'll just have to call around and find out:
first, if they'll do the install of that particular remote starter, and
next, the price for doing so.

the only bypass you need is a resitor, and a soldering iron.

Yes, there are 15 possible values for the resistor. But in this case, you already know the correct value because you can measure it on the original key.
