Alternator wire help?
Alternator wire help? Alright so I've been losing volts on the gauge lately . . . sometimes it would be 14 area and other times it would drop all the way to 8 and I'd lose everything in the car. If i hit a bump power would come back sometimes. Checked out the alternator and removed the main power wire and this is what i found
Question now, should I cut off that wire and expose some new wire and put a new connector on? Also does this wire run straight to the battery? Should I just put in a new wire going to the battery if so? I heard something about diodes in another thread but don't know. Thanks.

Id follow that wire to the other end and remove it completely and then run a new 4ga wire from the alt straight to the battery or the aux power terminal. Im in the NW burbs if you need a hand and I have tons of 4ga wire your welcome to
Thanks guys but there were any responses when I got to work on it today, i was able to expose some fresh wire and put another crimp connector on. Just needed to get the car back on the road. I will be upgrading that wire over winter when she's shut down. So i wouldn't have any issues running a new wire from there to the battery right? Nothing else is needed?
Just watch the voltage. If you see fluctuation's again, replace it now. That wire is pretty corroded and it's been re-crimped once since that isn't the factory lug. It won't be a hard job to re-do the alt wire. It'll only take a couple feet as in 3-4 max, but a couple lugs and some convoluted tubing or Split-Loom tubing. It's about a $20 job and maybe about 1 hour max work.
