Default installing head unit in 00 SS with Monsoon System

Well hello to all, i'm a noob here, just got my 00 Camaro SS today. The monsoon speakers are all fuggered up, and i've got replacements picked out for every location (they are all 4 ohm). From what i've read and understood from what i searched, the monsoon amp will work with an aftermarket HU, and sound much better with the output form the new HU. I'm wondering though, if there is a special adapter i need to get the monsoon amp to work with an aftermarket headunit. Or is this just a big waiste of time, and i should bypass it to run the speakers off of the Head Unit. Thanks a bunch!

I have the harness adapter and the single din radio mount available to upgrade your system for $27.00 shipped. This would still utilize all factory Monsoon wires and amplifier. I also carry full speaker replacement packages that wire up like factory for your SS. Please keep in mind the doors don't wire up like a normal coaxial does. You have 2 pairs of wires going into one speaker in your door speakers so a regular coaxial with only 2 leads won't work properly. You need a coaxial that has exposed wires leading to the tweeter so you can wire the tweeter wires to it...otherwise you end up with either just highs or just mids coming from your coaxial depending on which wires from the doors you hook up.
I have to options that work with your car specifically. Prices start at $80.00 a pair. PM me for more details.

The harness adapter and mounting kit are available from Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, and many online retailers (including some sponsors like KEE AUDIO). You don't need anything special. The harness adapter just plugs into the factory connector and gives you cut wires to tap into. Its actually not necessary, but makes for a neater and easily reversible installation.

Why? The monsoon amp will work fine with aftermarket speakers.

True!! That's why I mentioned that to him earlier in the thread to try and make sure he was aware of that. Lots of Camaro guys have made that mistake.

Thanks guys. The only reason i was hung up on this was that i had a durango with an infinity factory stereo in it, and the stock amplifier had to be bypassed, because the stock head unit was directly tapped into it, and didn't have any speaker wires or anything on it. O and 1 more ? Would a set of components up front work better than rewiring the set of coaxials i already have?

I have a set of CDT CL-61CV that are components that have a mount that works like a coaxial. They look like this:

These are perfect for the Camaro and I have sold several sets of these to members here that really liked them. This way you get the benefit of both and are able to keep the stock wiring.
