Ever hear of sound cancellation problem with sub?

Ever hear of sound cancellation problem with sub?

On my 2005 C6, I changed the stock Bose with an aftermarket system, but had problems with the bass cutting out at loud volume. I took it back to the installer, and he said that it was from sound cancellation. He thought that I should go to a smaller sub or some other box configuration.

I called JL Audio tech support today, and they said that the only time they heard of such a thing was when the microphone that is in the car was not disconnected after changing speakers/system.

What is this microphone, and have you ever heard of such a problem?

Alpine C/D player
JL 300/2 amp
MB Quarts components
JL 500/1 amp
JL W6v2 10" sub
I had a custom box built for my 10" W6 sub (fiberglass/wood and sealed)
Center channel and rear speakers were disconnected.

Thanks for any input you guys might have.

What is your voltage when you listen at higher volumes?

It could be phase issues, but when you say "cutting out," it makes me think about an amp turning off (overheating, voltage going out of range, etc.).

Sounds like a coil problem. Take the woofer out of the enclosure and check it with a DMM

I would have to agree with DragonRage. Cutting out completely would have to be an amplifier problem.

not necessarily. If the coil has rubbed, unwound, or burnt it will send the amp into protect which is not an amp problem.

Thanks for all the input. I have had a few people, included JL Audio tell me that my installer must not of hooked up the system correct. It is possible because my installer did not install a kit for the On-star, door chims, etc. He did not know much about the new C6 vettes. I will have another shop check it out.

Fair enough, but I don't think that was typical.
