Default electrical issue

okay so i drove my t/a for the first time since i installed my stereo. The interior lights do not work, like the gauges and a/c lights. Is there a fuse or something i should look at? The lights in my deck work but my humount.com face plate does not light up either.

If your tail lights are also out then it's the TAIL LPS fuse (also powers the dash lights). If the tail lights still work then it's the IP DIMMER fuse.

No, the ground won't cause a fuse to blow. Something is wrong on the power side. Have you installed any electrical accessories lately? You'll have to look for loose wires or cuts in wire insulation that is causing some power wire to contact metal, shorting the circuit and blowing the fuse.

What about an aftermarket head unit? They usually require a connection to the parking light circuit which is powered by the TAIL LPS fuse.

Did you use a wiring harness adapter when installing the Pioneer? Any chance that one of the power wires might be touching one of the other wires? In particular you should check the wire connected to the brown wire in the factory harness - that's the parking light circuit.

That's true. Unfortunately, there are so many separate things that run off the TAIL LPS fuse that it's going to be a lengthy process of elimination unless you have some reason to suspect a particular area.

The fact that it happened the first time after installing the stereo seems to indicate that would be as good a place as any to start looking for a short.

well when i had my old jvc headunit in the lights worked fine, but when i upgraded my headunit is when i added my amps/sub so i am wondering if the ground in the back might be loose which could cause the short.

No, a short is when a power wire connects to ground without a load (motor, amp, light bulb, whatever) in the circuit. A ground wire cannot cause a short because it is already going to ground.

yes but if its not grounded properly cant it cause the power to surge which could blow the fuse?

No. If it's not grounded properly, it just won't turn on.
