Sounds like the contacts inside the ignition cylinder may be worn and not making good contact. They could also just be dirty. However, if the VATS has been bypassed with a resistor then the ignition cylinder isn't even in the circuit and it should have no affect on the security light or starting the car.
BTW, it's DAMN VATS.

I thought there where 4 wires inside the ign. cylinder 2 organe for the DAMN VATS and 2 others for ignition?
how hard is it to remove the ign. cylinder any write ups on this?
whitebird when I stated the security light stayed off you are now narrowing down to the ign. contact points?
and when the contact points eventually completely wear out would I have to theive like remove the ign. cylinder to prevent being stranded?
Thanks

No, there are only two wires to the ignition cylinder (for the VATS contacts). The cylinder activates the ignition switch mechanically using a rod to the switch further down on the steering column.
Even those two wires for the VATS are not doing anything if you've bypassed the VATS system with a resistor. You could cut them, short them together, or whatever, and it would make absolutely no difference. In other words, the ignition cylinder or its wires would not be the source of your problem.

you can delete it from the pcm but it is also in the body computer as well .
also this may help you out . it is only two wires from an orange tube . just be sure it is getting the correct resistance as you only got + or -20 or it will not work .
