ipod question please scroll down to #9.... I followed the forum's advice and looked for the code on the circuit board..... I would like to use the GM9-Aux adapter ...

I used the search function and read that the Ipod2car won't work with some 1999 Monsoon systems. Why ?
I have a 1999, how can I find out if the Ipod2car adapter works with my radio ?
As you can tell from this post... i know nothing about these Ipod adapters....
I found this one on Crutchfield's site:

iPod and auxiliary input adapters require the head unit to be capable of controlling the factory external CD changer in order to work. All f-body cassette head units had this capability but CD head units didn't get it until late in the 99 model year. So, if you have a cassette in your 99 then it will work fine. If you have a CD then it might work but it probably won't. The only way to tell if you have an early or late 99 head unit (other than just trying the adapter) is to open up the head unit and look at the stamped code on the CD drive circuit board.
If you go through the "what fits my car" routine on Crutchfield you will get to a page that has an "Important Requirements" link that says "Factory radio must not have indash CD player" for a 99 Camaro (same for Firebird).

Thanks. I have a CD player in this '99. I'll open the head unit and look for the code. What exactly am I looking for ?
Will this GM9-aux adapter (if the head unit supports the port) also charge the Ipod ?
What about this Ipod2car adapter ? Will that work on this 99 HU if the GM9-aux doesn't ??
From what I learned so far a used 2001 HU might be the cheapest and easiest solution....

The code is a printed stamp on the circuit board. The code E-8276-1 does not support a CD changer or any of the iPod/auxiliary input adapters. The code E-8276A-1 does support the changer and adapters.

I'll have a look at the circuit board some time this week. Most likely the adapter won't work but thanks for taking the time to reply with photos, I'm sure it'll help other members as well.

i have the usa spec adapter in my 02 def recomend this one works amazing charges the ipod and all and the steering wheel controls work. i dont know if this helps due to your year/model but stay away from the peripheral tried it first 100% garbage

OK... I just disassembled the radio today and found code 8276-2..... now what ???

Any chance the head unit was replaced (perhaps under warranty) before you bought the car? It's possible you actually have a newer than 99 head unit in which case the adapter should work. The stamped code certainly seems to be later than the ones shown for 99 models.
I'd be tempted to try it and see. If it doesn't work it won't do any harm. You could always pick up a newer head unit for under $100 from the parts for sale section here or on eBay. That would ensure it working and still retain the factory look.

I bought the car Nov 2001 with only 30K miles... no idea if the head unit was replaced but maybe it was replaced....
The cables for the CD changer were connected to the HU. I wonder if the factory wired and connected the cables even though the CD changer control was not supported
I will try the GM9-aux adapter and a headphone to RCA cable. Hopefully I can find it locally so it's an easy return (without shipping) if it doesn't work.
I also have a '99 tape deck and I'll try that as well with a tape adapter, don't really like giving up on the CD though...
I might end up buying another newer head unit.... decisions decisions...:-))

The GM9-AUX adapter will work with the cassette head unit. It works with all model years of cassette - only CD head units have the model year compatibility problem.
