All later model SS Camaros came with the Monsoon as part of the SS package although I believe there was a "Monsoon delete" option that could be special ordered. Check for option code UZ7 to confirm it had a Monsoon system. Speakers in the hatch area are a sure sign of a Monsoon or you can check for the amp in front of the spare tire.

Are there plastic hatch panels without speaker grilles from cars that didn't have Monsoon?

Yes there are! I have seen a few but wasn't quick enough. They are on older model 4th gen cars.

They are also available for 98-02 models (although far less common). For example, the left panel (ebony) part number is 10308669 and the right is 10308663.

You sure the first part number is right? According to gm parts direct GM list is only like $40, and "their price" is like $24...which is about what I get from my local guy too (very similar pricing to gm parts direct without their awful handling charges)...I'll DEFINITELY buy them if thats the case. I just need to make sure I have the right part numbers for a Camaro.

Ian, did you get my PM the other day?

Looking again at the parts list, I find there are some problems. The diagram shows the right side trim panel as item 11 and the left side as item 13. But the part number list shows all left side panels under #11 and all right side under #13 (reversed).

Using the descriptions rather than the diagram, the first number (10308669) is the correct number for "panel, qtr inr rr tr fin (ebony) LH" for 01-02 FP87 (Camaro coupe) with UQ0 (base 4-speaker audio system). However, GM parts direct has no listing for that number so it must be superceded.

The other number is the trim panel for the right side but in natural (tan). There is no listing for one in ebony but earlier model year panels are listed as "paint to match".

I recommend checking for current part numbers since my parts list is a couple of years out of date. If the parts guy can't find it, tell him it is in group 14 of the parts catalog. It's easy enough to get them to give you the part numbers by telling them you'll come back later to place the order.

I'll get in touch with the parts guy tomorrow...I definitely want to find out about this...I find it funny that the "stripper" cars didn't have speakers back there, and I'm trying to build a really nice audiophile stereo...and part of that for me is no rear speakers...just seems ironic to me. I'm deleting them no matter what...it'd be cool to have interior panels with no grilles for it to really just seem "right" that way...color doesn't really matter either (if GM doesn't have black ones in stock anymore)...I've used stuff like SEM and VHT on previous cars to change the color of vinyl and plastic interior panels, it's really not hard and works really well...especially since it's gotta be black, easy color to match.

I found a pdf file online that is a "parts cd"...if I'm reading it correctly...there are a bunch of part numbers for those panels for different years...F87 meand Camaro and UQ0 should mean no speaker holes right? 10308663 is listed for 01-02, and 16672102 is listed for the same part for 97-00 (color difference I guess...no big deal though)...among other numbers that I think are just different colors...but is F87 or FP87 the only "Camaro Coupe"? 10308663 is listed for F87 without the P.

For the one side, I see 10308664, 10308669, 10410096, 16672105, 16633452. (trying to stay within "97-02" and F87 and UQ0)

For the other side, I see 16633450, 16672102, 10308663...weird that I seem to find more numbers for one side than the other.

If I search GM parts direct for all of those numbers, 10308663 comes back as a valid PN with a description that kinda makes sense, and it's $39.70, or $23.54 for a price...then 16633452 also comes back as a valid pn (for the other side of the car too) and it's $104.89, or $62.17 for a price...very strange, I'll definitely have to talk to the parts guy tomorrow...it does kinda make sense though that the passenger side panel costs more...it's larger (drops down to hide the spare tire).

Also, JL-Audio only lists one stealthbox application for 93-02 Camaro's...I haven't compared LT1 and LS1 cars side by side, but as far as I can gather, the hatch trim area's never really changed much over the years, I think it's probably only color differences...either way I think no matter what my stealthbox will in the end still fit if I wind up going with panels from a different model year and making them black.

F87 and FP87 are the same thing. The "F" is for F-body. The "P" is for a sub-model but that doesn't exist for F-bodies so it's just a generic place-holder. The 87 is for coupe (67 for convertible).

The major difference between the years is color although there might have been some other slight differences (texture, etc.). For example, in earlier models the "black" was graphite but later models had ebony.
