Default Security Problem and Car Not Starting...

Over the past couple months, on and off my security light has be comming on and not allowing me to start my car. I try locking and un-locking it over and over again. I usually end up just locking it and walking away from it abit....Any ideas one the cause of this problem and any possible solutions?

My old S-10 2000 had a similar problem with the security light comming on. I had a remote start on it and has the key transponder bypassed and it would always start. I think GM had a recall on the sensor for the keyless entry. Maybe you have a similar prob.

The security light in the instrument cluster has nothing to do with whether the car is locked or unlocked. It indicates that the VATS system doesn't recognize your ignition key. When it "sees" a ket with the wrong resistance attempt to start the car it shuts down the starter and fuel injection and illuminates the security light for three minutes before allowing you to try again.

Try your other ignition key or clean the contacts of the current key with a pencil eraser and some rubbing alcohol then spray some contact cleaner into the ignition cylinder. If that doesn't solve the problem, the contacts in the ignition cylinder may be too worn to make proper contact or the BCM might be bad.
