I have a Alpine CDA-7897 cd player I bought new back in 2002 for $600. It needs a new laser (i think). Is it worth the money to send it to Alpine and have it fixed?

These days 6 year old electronics are extinct. I would get a quote from Alpine first but dont go to a stereo shop because they will just say "No its too old...but I have this nice new one here for $400".

I bought an Alpine in dash DVD over a year ago and had it sent in a month ago because the frame was getting scratched as the creen went in and out and they replaced the frame, fixed what was scratching it, and checked the electronics for nothing but the shipping to them and back...IMO they are a great company.

I called Alpine a year or so ago and they told me $100.

I agree with pentavolvo - go for it, if everything else seems to be fine. (if it's still $100)

I agree as well. That is a good quality HU and you won't be able to replace it for $100.00.

Alpine and Clarion have one like that as well. I sold the Alpine to a gentleman in Canada who had a race car but wanted tunes. The lack of moving parts kept a conventional CD player type unit from skipping. Perfect for that type of application.
