steering wheel pods??

there's only a few post even containing info on these. whitebird knows the part numbers for the new and old pods and can tell how to identify them (early from late pods, that is) but being as there is about a ~$130 difference between the two versions, i'd like to know if the newer style pods will work where my old ones used to be. I'd think they would if they're the same shape and have the same resistance (i.e. the circuit between them and the radio didnt change in mid '99 when the pods did)...but i'd like to be sure.

You're right that there is no electrical difference between the early and late versions of the switches. The resistance values and connections are the same. However, the old part number doesn't supercede to the new number (which is what usually happens when parts are interchangeable). There must be some physical difference between the versions. It could be as minor as a change in the labels on the buttons or a color change. But it could also be that they mount differently or are different sizes.
Your best bet might be to find examples to compare - either a friend's car or at a junk yard.
