Default Best Amp and Stealthbox Sub Combo.

What is the best amp and sub that will work with this setup. By best, I mean the loudest sub that still retains good sound quality. I see a lot of people using the JL 10" W3v2 sub, but that doesn't necessarily mean its the best that can be fit in there, does it? And, of course, what is the best bang for the buck amp to back it up.

I ran a 10" JL W3v2 powered by a JL 250/1 for a while in my Z28 and the sound was really nice. I now run a 12" ID12 powered by a Crossfire amp is it blows my last setup out of the water when it comes to getting loud clean bass.

I don't think any one will be able to single out the "best." If I was you I would listen to peoples opinion and then go listen to some stuff in person and determine what you like.

Listening to this stuff in person is not as easy as a simple visit to the local stereo shop. A sub that might not necessarily sound all that loud in the shop, might be a totally different story inside the hatchback. I guess price is always somewhat of a factor as well. About how much was that ID12/Crossfire combo vs the JL stuff?

I agree with what you're saying about what a sub sounds like in a store vs in the back of a f-body but you can pretty much bet that a sub you hear in store will hit a lot harder in the back of a hatch.

I cant truly compare the prices I paid for the JL setup to my current setup. When I bought the JL stuff around 2003 I paid about $600 for just the sub and amp new. The ID/Crossfire setup I run now I bought used from a guy on my local f-body forum. If I was to guess I'd say my setup now if bought new cost a little bit more than the JL setup only because of the amp which is a 5 channel.

Yes it will. I have 2 in stealth boxes but you will need to route the hole out larger for the SE10 as it has a larger diameter cutout than most subs.

After reading up a little bit more on the RE SE10, I went ahead ordered one and then ordered an Infinity Reference 611a class D amp with 670 RMS watts and a stealth box from subthump.

I'm my Z28 with the JL setup I had the sub in a driver side stealth box and built an amp rack for the 250/1 in the spare tire area so I would have room for the t-tops. My Formula is hardtop so I didn't pay too much attention to how I mounted the amp in the hatch/sump area as long as I had enough room to mount a bottle also.

I just tried my SE-10 in the box last night and it will need notched to fit. Kee... Is it just the basket that hits? All I can see so far but don't know if the corners inside will also need a notch to clear the magnet. Also do you suggest stripping 1/2" of the carpet away and using some sealer on there to really seal it tight?

By notched, you mean the hole that the sub fits into needs to be routed out and made bigger, right? I think that once you get it in there, the magnet should clear fine because the RE SE10 only requires a 6" depth while the stealthbox gives you 9" of depth. I don't know if that takes into account the movement of the magnet when it hits though.

Bigger hole by about 1/4". The way the sides kind of taper it looks like the magnet may hit as well but have to notch the top before I can tell. Plenty of space to the rear.

Ok, I see what you are saying, please let me know if you run into anything other than making the hole bigger. I could use all the advise I can get prior to my install to make the process as smooth as possible.

Audiopulse epic 10, Audiopulse revo 10,FiQ 10,Image Dynamics idq 10 v3,I.D. IDmax 10,
All these are also really good subs! Just so you know.
Also make sure you put some polyfil in your sub box before you mount it, to maximize your bass from the stealth box.
