On the 4k you can change the backround colors not the backround itself

its a good head unit, don’t get me wrong there. It has plenty of features that I will never use. I just find that I have more questions than the manual has answers.
like
for some damn reason the 'eject lock' got activated. Nothing in the book about it, tech support emailed me back with "based on your email we feel we can better help you if you were to call us".....
basically it took me 3 days of pushing random combinations of buttons to find out that the eject button held down along with pressing the volume **** (mute) will turn off the eject lock......
what a stupid feature, you cant eject the disk when the car is off any way...
its very skip resistant,
with a little toying around you can figure out the menus fairly easily
dvd's look good (the 528t relay is worth its weight in gold)
I cant say enough good things about the I-pod interface,
and I cant wait to pick up a 250gig external hard drive and load it up with music..

I guess im just down on it because i get frustrated when I dont get the whole story up front...

yeah I tried that, the issue is there is no one supervisor that handles all of the customer service requests on-line. They all get subdivided into different areas and I have so far had bad experiences with parts purchasing, installations and operations, and for some reason warranty (though I never asked any thing warranty related). so that’s 3 separate phone calls....

I guess if I get board one day I will make em...

This may or may not help...on the AVIC series you load custom backgrounds by putting them on a disc in a folder named "PICTURES". The disc must have at least 4MB of data on it in order for the deck to recognize it and it can't contain any other media files (MP3s, etc.). Picture files must be in JPG format and a maximum of 20 files is supported.

Pioneer's specs for that model don't list user created backgrounds as a feature but I suppose it couldn't hurt to try.
