Default Question on installing AVIC-D1

I have an AVIC-D1 and I am wondering what wiring harness adaptor i need to be able to hood it up. Also what do i need to keep the steering control? Links to products would help a lot since i dont know much about adio equipment.

Thanks.

The wiring harness is the standard 21-pin 1988+ GM harness. The Scosche number is GM-02B. The Metra number is 70-1858.

The steering wheel control adapter is the SWI-PS made by PAC (Pacific Accessory Corp). It plugs into the remote port on the back of the Pioneer head unit.

Ok, So i need to buy the PAC thing and then an adaptor harness with either of those part numbers in order for the double din to plug into my stock harness? My car is an 02 by the way.

Yes, all 4th generation f-bodies would use the same parts.

Do i have to cut the stock radio harness and splice it with this one in order for it to plug into the double din?

A double DIN head unit connects exactly the same as any other HU - it's just bigger. And no, you don't cut the factory harness - that's the reason for a harness adapter. You connect the harness adapter to the new HU and then it just plugs into the factory harness.

The wiring is easy. Getting a Double-DIN to fit is a little more difficult, but not by much. You need to do some trimming.

Check out my install to see what needs to be trimmed:

Don't get dad new socks or a grill brush this year.
