A good Security/Remote Start for $1-150?
A good Security/Remote Start for $1-150? Ive been looking at the python 990 for a security/remote start system, but the cheapest im finding is around 240, and then installation which I dont even know how much will be.
Had a recent prob w/ the car which set me back a few hundred dollars (just a college kid :<) so I dont think I can do the python. Anyone know any decent systems in a 1-150$ price range?

I like code alarm, have you considered installing it yourself? Most newer systems come with on-board relays and it makes installation MUCH easier for the DIYer

i would NOT try to learn how to install an alarm/remote start on the fly. it isnt that the install is terrible (its not easy by any means) but there are so many things that you have to understand and know how to program to get everything the way you would like it to be. i wouldnt take it to a retail installer either (circuit city/best buy).
if you know someone that is familiar with it then i would say go for it. it will take you some time though!

I have had a good experience with the Prestige 996a. There are a few model numbers almost like it but I don't remember them right off hand.
It should cost you about 150-175 to build a real good low budget two way LCD security system.

Anybody have input on the Clifford Matrix RSX 3.5? Ive found that I just dont think Ill get a quality security/start for less than 200 :X

i work for circuit city(install manager for past 5 years), and i would charge 160 base labor, plus 80 for the lock system in our cars, plus 85 for the r/s bypass. So, circuit city would be about 325. And i have the 990 in my z28, my avalanche, my brother's g20, and my fiancee's jag. Great alarm.

if your looking to save a little cash check the python 872 or the 871 is its predecessor still 2way shorter range no screen and no if you've never done an alarm/rs before an f-body is definatley not the car to try it out on you dont need a r/s bypass but you do need to wire in a relay with resistors to bypass the vats(chipped key) you'll also need 2 relays for the door locks and a third if you want trunk pop +1 for the motion sensor especially if you have a T-Top car I would also add a mini piezo siren under the dash I recently installed a viper 791 (similar to 990) in a friends y2k Z28 the piezo is ear bleeding! works great, good luck pm me if you have any questions I still have all the paperwork for f-bodies
I found a Viper 5900 for 195$ that I may get, and a place that would install for $200. So I think it might be the next mod.
