Default Any Alpine CDA-D852 1.5 DIN Owner's Here?

I've been wanting to try a 1.5 DIN Alpine for years. I picked up a Alpine CDA-D852 off of eBay yesterday for $58 shipped. However, it has a couple of issues. It has no harness, but I can pick one up for $10, so that's no biggie. The other issue won't affect me, but it does concern me. The internal amp doesn't work. The RCA outputs are supposed to work fine, so as long as you have external amplification (as I do) then it should be fine.

Any idea if the internal amp buring out is a common problem on the 852's?

Did the D852's come with remotes? If not, will they work with the D855 remote if I pick one up?

I've got a completely aftermarket system with Orion amps, MB Quart speakers, etc., etc., but I'm using the Monsoon HU with a PAC OEM-1 to get the signal to everything. Will I notice a marked improvement in quality of sound by switching over to this Alpine? I'm happy now with my OEM-1, but if I can get things even better, GREAT!

Here's a link to the one I bought:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN:IT&ih=005

Any comments or other thoughts on Alpine 1.5 DIN HU's?

Seems most people who ran this unit (from what I read) used an aftermarket amp anyway with them. It does have 2 preamp outputs so it has some versatility when it comes to aftermarket amplification. I also read 2 comments about the nice remote it has so apparently it did have a remote available. It also was rated 5 of 5 on carreview overall and another rating had it at 3 of 5 but said it had excellent sound quality but lacked bass. This could be easily fixed with a sub.
Anytime you use a quality aftermarket HU with a quality aftermarket amp you should see a marked improvement in sound quality. From what you listed for equipment you should have a nice, well rounded system.
You could add a nice quality stealth sub of 8" or 10" to add a little more bottom end but that is about it.
Good luck!!

I had one in my truck up until last year. I think it was the CDA-D855 but they are exactly the same except for a couple of features. I never had a problem with the internal amp. I ran my door speakers off it. It was a really nice HU and I loved it. Someone broke into my truck last summer and ripped it out of the dash. They didn't get the remote and I know I still have it here somewhere. and it worked on the other alpine unit I had in another car at the time

I had the unit for about 7 years and it never let me down.

01 Red WS6, if you were to find that remote, I'd be willing to pick it up from you if you're interestedin selling.

I've actually got a pretty good system: MB Quart 218.03CX for the front soundstage, Kicker F6.5C for the mid-bass in the backseat, and an Eclipse 8710.4 10" sub in a JL Vantage Stealbox. All powered by 2 seaparate old school Orion amps. I used the Monsoon HU and OEM-1 because I wanted to keep a "stock" appearance and I don't like standard DIN HU in a 1.5 DIN opening and I don't care for the Pioneer 1.5 DIN's that are currently out.

I might look into getting the internal amp repaired AFTER I hook it up and confirm that everything else works.

chrysler kid, do a search on here using "1.5 DIN" and you'll find some posts with pics of them installed.

I found this pic of the 1.5 DIN Alpine in a Trans Am. Can you see why I like the Alpine's better than the Pioneer's? I really do think they look better!

Sorry for jumping in on this, but I always thought ALL other 1.5-Din receivers for our cars looked way to "Wal-Martish". I then saw Alpine's, and I was immediately sold. Used to have a D852 before moving on to a 9855.

The two comparison pics posed by chrysler kid and banddirector says it all.

Bummer! My Alpine arrived today, but it was damaged in shipping I emailed the seller to see what he wants to work out, but it looks like it's a $38 part to fix the nose....I only paid $58 for the thing shipped, so we'll have to see what the seller wants to do. I don't know if I just want to send it back and keep my eye out for another one, or attempt to fix this one. It just wasn't packaged very well.

If the seller has good feedback, and you still want to, send it back and the seller shoudl refund your money; especially if the condition prior to being sent was good. Poor packaging is no excuse for a damaged item. if it's an electronic item and packed WELL in say, bubble-wrap, it'll survive ALMOST anything. But then again, for only $38, if everything else is good, I'd probably just fix it. But I also wouldn't leave very good feedback for the seller.

The seller has a 100% eBay feedback rating and, as of right now, he's taking care of me. He issued a refund to me for $38, but sent it to an email addy that I don't have a paypal account for. Once he gets that corrected and sends me the $38 to my correct paypal, I'll be happy and still give him positive feedback for doing as I requested. These 1.5 DIN Alpine's are so hard to come by that I probably will go ahead and buy the replacement part and fix it. I want to make this work and also find a 12 disc changer that goes with this HU and I'll be set

There's a reason why eBayers have the positive feedback they earn. Glad things are working out for you. Good luck.

Well the seller followed through with the refund, so I ended up picking up the Alpine for $20...now I just need to figure out if I want to spend the money for the part to fix it, or see if I can have someone fabricate a trim piece that would cover it up or something....
