HOW TO: Sequential Tail Lights
#203
You guys that want LED's for this, Tell me the functionality you want and I'll modify my circuit for what you want. What I built already does 10 times what you want, but requires modification to the car. To make it do just what the 3 bulb kits do but with LED's would require no extra mods except an electronic flasher for the front signals and also a connection to the 3rd brake light wire by the back seat to keep the brakes from doing sequential if desired.

We'll make it work, it's just 3 sets of led's to represent 3 bulbs and a computer chip to interface the cars outputs (turn signals, brake lights, park lights, and hazards) and tell the led's how to light up (pattern and brightness). It comes down to mounting the led's that would be the hurdle for now.

You know what forget it. You guys will cut, weld, fiberglass, bondo, remove an rebuild an engine, put a different transmission, add a blower, 500hp of nitrous, meth injection, dip your cars in plastic, but no, never would you cut a wire and maybe solder something.
I was just trying to help, yeah wait for best buy to sell something.

The video you posted looks like the lights aren't very bright. Did you confirm that you new design is in line with DOT requirements?

The lights are brighter than the factory bulbs. They don't seem so bright because the tail lights have illegal night shade on them. The point is you can't expect not to cut wires if you want to change the functionality of the original car. How can 3 bulbs do 3 separate things when originally they did 1 thing wired together without cutting wires. I'm also sure any mod to the lights is not DOT approved and would be illegal including all 3 bulb sequential kits. What DOT regulation allows brake lights to sequential on? Regardless of how much research you do, even if they were bright enough, that doesn't make them legal or DOT approved, only DOT certification can do that. This is the case with all the HID kits out there too that are illegal.
As I said before I was just trying to offer a solution to the previous posts about an LED solution. I wasn't selling anything just offering some of my time and experience. I've learned plenty on these forums, copied other things guys have done, and it's all trickled into my camaro.

Regardless of cutting lights and all. If done right, not a problem. Personally I would love to see a trans am w/ some sort of led tail lights. Its a whole lot of tail light to light up though. Would be interesting to see how it would light up and work on one.

Figured I'd give this a bump from the dead, because sequential signals are awesome. I also have a question...
On my old '00 Firehawk, I had the original sequential tail lights form WE, the one where you have to cut the 194 opening to fit an 3157 socket/bulb. I see now they offer an easier option using a 921 bulb which is still a single filament, but higher wattage (18w). While this is definitely an easier solution, it still doesn't get as bright as a 3157 bulb (8.3w/27w). I can also tell this in the videos with the new module.
I'm guessing I'm just pretty OCD, but does it bother anyone with the different brightness on the outer bulbs?

Check out the video in post #96. It shows the new kit. It's a little hard to see on the video due to the reflection of the reflective elements in the housings and the angle of the camera, but you can't tell any difference in luminous intensity between the bulbs. (If you watch closely for the bright spots in the video, this is a little easier to see.)
