If your talking about something along the lines of a 5" tach, don't put it on the A Pillar. I had one on my A Pillar and when the inside of the car got warm, the weight of the tach and the plastic of the A Pillar would get flexible from the heat, it looked like I had set it up for the guy beside me to see what RPM's I was running cause it would flex and would kinda lean towards the driver side window if that makes any sense. If you or anyone else has a solution to this problem then I say go for it but in my time of trial and error, that for me would have to be an error.

Why don't you just get a shift light and mount it out of the way. Don't guess I ever needed a tach to watch.

Thats great and all but I have a raptor shift light but its off the stock tach and their both wrong. Mike Norris set my rev at 6600 and the tach says anywhere from 5800-6200. Never is the same or consistant!! Can I get a RPM tach lead box for the shift light?

I don't recommend the in dash(radio socket) tach for everyone... just those (like me) who fear the thing getting stolen more than once... Left car in parking lot for 12 minutes, came back and the tach was gone, radio sitting in the seat. They left my 300 dollar radio for my 75 dollar tach...

The shiftlight should be referencing the same signal as you would use for your monster tach. So if the shiftlight is off, it's either broke, or you have other issues going on.

Please don't screw a big ole tach onto your dashboard. Nothing screams 1985 than having a great big tach there. I knew a guy who put a monster tach in his automatic, which I could never understand.

My Harlan shift light has been in the hawk for about 10 years and still works perfect, don't know why yours is slow? I still don't see the need, I've never once watched a tach while making a pass. To each their own though.

LOL at tach in an auto. However I dont know anything about shift lights it was in car when I bought it and only works speratic and when it does its way off. So prob got a bad shiftlight then. Monster tach is not what I really want but didnt know what else would work.

Buy a new shiftlight and calibrate it in steps. By that I mean, set it to 2000 rpm, and confirm that it comes on at 2000. Then move to 4000 and see if it comes on at 4000.

If it meets those two rpms, then set it to whatever you want it at and it should work. The problem with the factory tach isn't that it's innacurate, it's that it's slow moving, especially when you change gears, and add more power. It's the motor that drives the needle that's slow and can't keep up. So if you slowly rev the motor and hold it at an rpm, it will display that rpm on the tach.

So get a new shiftlight, install it properly, make sure it's at the correct rpm, and you should be fine.
