Default Are these necessary

I recently took some extra speaker covers I had ( the ones on the door panel, sail panel, and two in the trunk) and painted them the color of the car. In order for me to paint them I had to remove that cloth insulation that was on the inside of them. Does that insulation need to be there?

Post up some pics, im interested in seeing how they look. I believe the cloth is there just to keep dirt out.

The cloth keeps the speaker oil from spraying out when listening to the music loud.........

j/k

It just covers them so you cant see them and dust

I did mine a while ago, they will look a lot better without the cloth. It was kind of time consuming to remove it though...

Here ya go. I know it needs cleaned out and I'm not finished with it yet. I'm having trouble getting the small painted cover to pop in place. I think its warped or shrunken.

That's some nice work man, I like it. Did you sand your panels smooth before you painted them, or did you leave them textured?

I scuffed them up with 220 grit and then hit em with 400 they were really smooth after the 400 grit.

The only prep work I did was scuffed them with the 220 then 400. Cleaned them, just make sure you don't put them in hot water. I think I shrunk one of the small speaker covers lol. Then I used rustoleum white primer for plastic and then duplicolor perfect match paint with a very light amount of clear coat. One time I think I over did the clear once and it took all the sparkle out of the paint.
