Default Just installed my McNord gauge overlay and have a question <PICS INSIDE>

I recently received my custom McNord gauge setup and finally got around to installing it. I went with a custom aviation theme, with a little sense of humor thrown in. Anyway, I love the gauges, but as I was told to expect, the warning lights are very dim. I do have LEDs in the turn signals and cluster lights, so I can see at night, but the problem is the warning lights during the day.

Has anyone modified the cluster so that they can be more visible?

Oh, and here are some pics of my gauge setup. It's not the most flashy overlay, but the aviation font and modified graduations are very legible and give the cluster an all-business look:

Here's an overexposure so you can see the renamed warnings:

Very cool! If I had the money for a mod like this, I would do something similar

You can try trimming the bottom most layer of the overlay. There are 2 (or 3) I had McNord cut mine before he made it and I can see just fine.

On both of my sets, I had to trim the warning light areas and replace those parts with stock overlays. I hid the seams with a Trans Am bezel... I believe it was Hotwhip's idea. Works, now I can see the lights in day, but the font doesn't really match.

On a side note, this overlay is AWESOME! LOL

I really like the custom labels used in the overlay! Very well thought out. Nice work! Good luck with the warning lights to be more visible. Hope it works out for you!

Thank you all for the kind words!

I've considered your suggestions and looked at the links, but I'm very hesitant to modify a $275 overlay, as I'm not real good with "crafty" stuff like that.

I'd be much more comfortable with modifying the cluster itself, as I can replace it for $50 or so. Is it fairly straightforward to solder some LEDs into the warning lights?

Thanks for that. So, basically, de-solder the old LEDs, and solder in new ones, making sure I get the polarity correct, right?

Yea pretty much. Make sure of that backwards D like I mentioned. All of them go that way. Also, if you scratch the back circuit board through a trace, you'll have to hard wire that LED. Hopefully you won't have that problem though. You'll know if it doesn't work and you put the LED in both ways.
