Default Converting LS1 front end to LT1 front end

Someone in my car club is thinking about swaping me front ends. His car is a 94-97 and mine is an 00. I was told that it would be simple for him to put on my fenders, nose, lights, etc. but I would have more difficulty.

Has anyone done it? How difficult was it? Do things line up like they should?

Why would you want to put the older front end on. The 98+ is far better looking, IMO.

The swap should be of equal difficulty if you swap b/w the two cars.

Because the LS1s look like catfish. I deteste it and only bought the car because of the LS1.

The swap isn't the same. You have to shim the LS1 nose to fit on an LT1 car. The problem is recessing the the bumper bracket to put the LT1 nose on an LS1 car.

Jason, you're a nut!

After a while, you'll change your mind about the front end.

Thanks guys for your opinions but I'm really looking for some technical knowledge on the swap.

It'll be nice rolling up to a car on the street and they see my "LT1" car and then waxing the pavement with 'em.

I dont think the the LS1 engine will fit under a LT1 front end. Is there enuff room for the LS1 air lid under a LT1 hood?

I have read on the boards that the LS1 is 'taller' than the LT1. Hence the new front end. Look at the difference in the height of the fenders just above the wheelwells.

Hmm.. 93-97 with a 98+ front end might be possible. Not sure about vice versa.. sounds pretty hard and impossible? I think the LT1 slopes downward more as it goes to the bumper. While the 98+ front is a little more level

i'll answer your question with a question.

What are you going to do for air induction for your motor?

LT1 style cai's wont' work with a LS1 fuseboxes.

You can't run a lid on a lt1 front setup.

About the only way i know of doing it is a SS style hood/airbox from a lt1 ss car.

Ryan.

Yep.. its MUCH easier to put a LS1 front end on a LT1 than the other way around.. Many fitment issues and induction problems.. i dont know of anyone that has done it.

Oh, if you go with a colormatched painted front grill like the Wings West unit it does get rid of a lot of the "catfish" look
