Default For those who used AUTOMOTIVE paint on their interior

I called Sherwin Williams and I can get a quart of high gloss black, sebring silver, and clear coat for a decent (in my mind at least) price. I have a paint gun and a place to paint, I was just curious if the prep was still the same. I was wanting to get rid of the pebble grain and WAS going to Krylon Fusion. I wanted a deeper look so this is the route I'm going. Tell me what my prep is missing.

Sanding: 60 grit, 220 grit, 400 grit, 600 grit, 1000 grit, clean with rubbing alcohol. Is that pretty much it?
Will I need a pre-paint adhesive? Primer? How many coats should I put on? Sorry for all the threads on this lately, I've got the bug and want to do it right. I screwed up the interior in my last car

I hink you will need an adhesive and primer but not certain. Let us know how it goes and take before and after pics to post up. Also document the process so if it works and someelse wants to know they can read up on it!
As for the coats it is usually 3-4 of each with the first coats being really light.

again, you WILL need to use adheasion promotor, and high build primer.

Sand the high build primer down to where it just barely covers the plastic, you do not want it too thick, or it may crack.

don't use sherwin williams paint. Use SEM plastic paints or actual auto paint from someplace like PPG or DuPont.

If you want to get rid of pebble grain...you'll need to
1) throughly clean the pieces with something like simple green.
2) rough up with 80 and 220 grit. Wash with hot soapy water
3) lay down a coat of plastic adesive promoter like DuPonts PLAS-STICK
4) lay down sandable primer, sand hardcore with the 400, repeat process until part is completely smooth.
5) lay down paint. and you'll get something like this

Why would you not use Sherwin Williams paint. They make some of the BEST automotive paint in the business. Right up there with Valspar and PPG. He ain't talking about house paint, I hope.

Easy mistake to make since they really only advertise their house paint. In my best jingle voice, "Ask Sherwin-Williams"!!

Ya Sherwin Williams is an automotive paint supplier to body shops. There is a Dupont shop around here too. I'll keep ya updated.
