Default What gears do you TH350/TH400 guys run?

Since I'm going to a TH350 I was curious to what gears everyone else runs for the 1/4. Right now I have a 65E with 4.30 gears and on my 150 shot there is NO WAY it will make it through the 1/4. As soon as I hit 125MPH I'm on the limiter.

S0, I was curious as to what you guys are running with a NA or a little juice.

depends on your redline I guess.

My cars got 3.73's with 26" tires and a th350 and im running thru at about 125 at 6200.

it sucks on the road though, i basically cut the speed in half and multiply by 100 for the rpm. The rpms are actually a little higher by about 200rpms so at 3000 im going about 58. but it gives you a good idea of the revs youll turn.

ie. 60mph = 3000
40mph = 2000
80mph = 4000

Are you going thru the traps in overdrive? because honestly, nobody should ever be racing in overdrive. you should be geared to go thru the traps at the top of 3rd gear without having to shift to 4th. a 350 or 400 should be spinning the same as your 4l60e when it comes to drag racing.

No no no. I don't run WOT in overdrive I know better than that . My hometrack is 1/8th mile but a couple tracks are starting to run the 1/4 again. My redline is around 7400-7500.

I'm running a 28x10.5x15 MT slick with the 4.33 gears. I haven't ran it in the 1/4 yet but with it running out of gear at 125 I know for a fact it won't make it through the 1/4 on a 150-200 shot. I'm thinking maybe the 4.11's would work good

4.11's would probably work well.

4.30s here through my 9" running a 28" tire N/A. Haven't ran the setup yet though. We I was on the phone with Jeff over at Jaws he did some calculations and informed me to buy a 28" tire so I did. Shoot them a call, Jeff is extremely helpful.

you dont want to shift into OD when youre racing. You should always gear yourself ideally so that youre going thru the trap at your max rpm and top speed in 3rd gear, or whichever gear is 1:1

This is a pretty interesting thread, I have been wondering the same thing.

In my new car ill be running between 650 and 675 rwhp, a th350, my MWC fabbed 9" w/ 4.10s and hoping to get in the 2700 lb range. Right now im running a 26" tire but will likely be swapping to a 28" tire. Im going to order a new rearend built a bit stronger and have been trying to decide on gears. My motor redlines around 6400 na but I havent hit it with the n20 yet.

Thats about the same power I'm hoping to make and then maybe more on the 700 side with the 200-225shot. Except I'm still on the 3500lbs for a while. The 28" tire is probably one of the best things I've done also. I think I'm gonna try either the 3.70's or 4.11's with the redline around 7200 and shift around 6600-6800.
