Default Someone just explain to me what i have to do to support 500HP

I"m in research mode on cam's currently, don't want to start on tranny's just yet. I know the 4l60E are weak. It's already starting to slip gears on the highway.

Questions are,
1. do i have to get it rebuilt or replaced all together? what's the best way to go? I still want to keep it for use on the street, not just a drag car.
What about the rear end? What do i have to do with that?
2. Posi or Detroit locker i've read a little about.

i'm just trying to get a set up pictured in my mind.

Ah! That was another thing I read but didn't get in the newbe thread. What's the preferred way to go a 9 or 12bolt? So I can just get the tranny rebuilt to handle the power?

500 horse I say a well built 4l60e should hold fine, order a built one from a reptable source.

The rear end is kinda of your choice. 10 = Crap - 9" or a 12 bolt should be solid

i would suggest a trans from one of the sponsors instead of going to a local place that is use to just rebuilds and not performance rebuilds. and the rear from what i read is a personal choice both are strong and should handle your power level with no problems.

Don't forget the Strange Engineering S60! Stronger and cheaper than either of those from what I have heard.

I say run what you have until they break.

I have read about guys on here spraying on launch with a stalled 4L60 pushing 700+ to the wheels and they have yet to blow up a tranny or a 10 bolt.
If the tranny is questionable now though it will certainly be a short time before it exits the car. You might want to think about going new on that sooner than the rear.
Put a stud girdle kit in your rear and run it. Again I have read about guys making crazy horse power and pushing it thru the factory 10 bolt with some cheap strength parts added to it.
If you have the cash for all of t now then never mind. If you are like most of us, we have to save for those $1000 dollar purchases. Start with the front end and work your way back. Its also cheaper that way!!

Enjoy!

Chad
