Default 4L65E acts like neutral in OD, and D.

Just completed a build on a 4L65E in a 2005 GTO that has Park, Reverse, Neutral, manual first, manual second. It even shifts from first to second...

When I put the stick in D or OD at a dead stop, it acts like it's in neutral. I'm suspect of the pnp switch, because when I dropped the trans out of the car, I knocked a corner of the plastic connector area off, and bent over a couple of tabs. I do however, have all my dash indicators working properly.

I went through a power flow chart, and the way the car acts in first and second makes me think that everything should be working properly. I'm stumped.

I don't think this is relevant, but I'll disclose it anyway, just to see what people say, but the fluid I'm running is John Deere Hygard hydraulic fluid. I'm running it to tighten up the converter a tad. So far, it seems like it did.

Any suggestions?

17. No forward movement in OD or D, but L2, L1 and R work: Forward sprag is broken. Transmission must be removed and rebuilt. Try not to run or drive the car or further damage could result.
Found that, but I can tell you for sure that the sprag isn't broken. I just looked at it last night, and it's fine. Now, could I have it assembled incorrectly? That's surely a possibility...

Just took it for a drive, and I can confirm that it will shift from 2-3 at proper road speed, but if you leave it in D, it defaults back to neutral at a stop. So you have to go to L1 to get the car rolling again.

I'm leaning toward the sprag being installed backward. I think I'm going to pull it one more time.

The sprag was installed backward. Oddly, according to the GM assembly manual drawing, I had it right... But upon testing, it rotated backward.

Torched the overrun friction plates down to the metal substrate, and the heat from the overrun nuked one of the forward clutch plates.

Could have been worse, I guess. The sprag still looks brand new.

Yep. I figured it was the forward sprag. When you manually shift from D2 to D3, the overrun clutches are holding and will still allow the shift.
