4L80e Noise - Video Inside
I traded my T56 for this "rebuilt" 4L80e with a TransGo 2 kit. I have a little over 50 miles since I've installed the transmission. This past weekend I had a full exhaust installed on the car (use to run a open down pipe) and I started to hear this noise. I dropped the pan and changed the fluid and filter today to see if that would fix the problem. When I first started it up after the fluid change it was quite, but then I went around the block and the noise was back.
It only makes the noise in reverse. I put 7.5 quarts in it after the fluid change. It also has a Yank PT3600 stall. Converter has 1.7 mm shims and has a hair over 1/8" pull up.
Any ideas?

Blaine Rasmussen old 80e? Was a badass tranny! Top notch guy we have a few projects we have helped each other on and that tranny was rock solid! We took his turbo c-10 out for one last run like 2 days before I helped him pull it and it was 100% solid.
Did you make sure you had the torque converter seated all the way before you bolted it up? 3 loud clicks not 2. Also how did you wire it up to work with the factory PCM, their is two ways you can do it.

Any material in the pan when you changed the filter?
It could be the pressure regulator shuttling from low fluid, aeration (caused by low or high fluid or a bad filter seal), or an internal leak.
Add a qt of fluid and see if the issue goes away.

There was three clicks, I've double checked. I had 13/64" gap between the flex plate and converter pad. I used the relay method from Slow67.
Before I changed the fluid I added another quart and the noise was quieter, but it still had a noise in reverse. It didn't sound the same. The new filter seal is tight. One thing I have noticed is that the noise is quite when the car is cold and it seems like once the tranny is warmed up it gets loud. And it only makes this noise in reverse.

It sounds like it is aerating the fluid as it runs, which could be low or high fluid level.
You need to check the accuracy of the dipstick.

Running on 7 cylinders and 22#the of boost it was blown up but it didnt have any of that noise that is in your video. Kinda sounds like some lifter tick, just like you said you had in your build thread...

It would shift better without a fluid pickup problem that would also cause noise in reverse.
