Trans. slipping ONLY in OD?
I've been noticing the transmission slipping lately in my '98 with ~72k miles, but it only does it in overdrive if I give it enough gas to accelerate but NOT unlock the converter, and it doesn't do it all the time either. It seems to get a lot worse if I am doing a lot of stop-and-go driving in traffic, and the other 3 gears seem to be fine.
I bought the car with a Vig 3200 in it, but there was no aftermarket trans. cooler installed and the fluid needs to be changed. I have a B&M 24k trans. cooler and TransGo on the way , and I will be flushing the whole system myself and changing the filter plus installing the parts hopefully this weekend.
Is there anything else I should do to try to correct this slippage myself? Do I need to be concerned about the life of the transmission? I'm always very careful not to stay in the gas if the transmission starts to slip, and I also try to drive so that I'm not under power when the converter tries to lock up in 4th. Thanks for the advice!

Mine slips but it's the TCC (converter lockup
clutch), not the trans itself. TCC is a second
PWM down-regulation in pressure and the PCM
*****-foots it for smoothness and economy.
The trans temp plays strongly into the main PWM
line pressure, which the TCC takes only a piece
of.

I don't think so...
I too have this problem with mine & it only happens in OD @ speeds around 65-68 mph.
I have 143K on my car... Only happens in OD.
I change my fluids religiously, original tranny and all.
I also have the Trans cooler/ temp guage. My care "rarely" gets over 150-160 deg even in the TX heat.
This "should" ease your mind..
