Shifter detents with 4l80e **Also other Q's** Hey guys, for those of you with 4th gens and who have done a 4l80e swap, did you guys have to change shifter detents? Gonna swap an 80e into my second gen, and instead of buying a shift works kit, i was just going to get an entire console and shifter out of a v6 4th gen with a 4l60e if i can find one in good shape. Thanks fellas.

All i did was use the 4L60 shift arm on the 4L80 and then just trimmed out my shift cable bracket holes. This got the cable snug on the arm. I just had to pull the bracket back towards the rear of the car maybe 1/8-1/4" at most to get it into the correct alignment and fully shift the trans into gears

Thanks for the insight Cole, i'll keep that in mind when i swap shift levers.
So as to not clog up the section with another thread, i've got another question.
The newer 4l80e's have a one plug range selector, much like this-
Where as the one i've got has a range selector has two, smaller plugs. Can i rewire the single plug to work, or just completely not use a selector at all? I remember reading somewhere that fbodies have a sensor on the gear selector since its a floor shift, is there any validity to this? Can i just use that sensor instead?

yep you'll get rid of that electronic and just get a shorter shift shaft. You may be able to use the longer one, i'm not sure. But you will only need the round plug on the side of the trans, not the other part. I was lucky to have had an older 80e so i didn't have to deal with it but the first core i bought was a newer one and it didn't have one either

Can you guys clarify what a short shift shaft is?(try saying that three times fast lol) The shaft the selector rides on? Guess i'm misunderstanding. Thanks again.
