Default POS 2004r is now making noise.

Well my son calls me and says the trans is making a clicking sound when it's in gear.
He immediately parked it and called me.
He did some searching on it and thinks it can be the converters gone bad, possibly a cracked flex plate or lose bolts.
Drives and shifts fine and hard as normal.
This trans has been a big pain in the butt and if it has to come out its for good!
My current th350 and treemaster converter will go in until he saves enough money to have the 80E built.
I should have never put a dime into this trans, especially behind a 406.
My th350 has been getting the ship beat out of it for 16yrs with zero issues.
Ok I'm done. Lol
Oh yeah, the cars up at my sons college..
I have to go get it for thanksgiving break.

Any tips what and where to look/listen would be appreciated..

If its the converter/flexplate it should be making the noise regardless of the whether it is in park/neutral/reverse/drive and so on. That should help you possibly eliminate the converter.

This is what he told me "When it's in drive, reverse," becomes unnoticeable once driving

Cracked flexplate can knock only under load in gear.

Not likely to be in the transmission.

I hope it's not in the trans.
Just want to make sure it isn't in the trans , then it's going up for sale.
He can beat my th350 all he wants and save $ for the 80e rebuild.
Now I just have to get it home and put it on the lift and find out for sure.

Default 200R4 whining noise

Ok, I finally went and picked my son and the Malibu up yesterday afternoon.
While loading it on the trailer it was making the "noise" what appears to be a whining noise NOT clicking noise as I mentioned in the other thread.

Sounds like a PS pump whine or low on fluid sound.
I didn't have time to check the level as I was in traffic going to get him and sat in 2+ hrs of it on the way home, so it wasn't a priority.

I will try and get a video and post it up.

He says it drove totally normal, fluid looks crystal clean and smelled fine and was up to the level.
The trans didn't leak so....
I hope it's just the converter as I would like to sell it and put whatever we get toward his 80E rebuild.
Either way, it's coming out and my th350/treemaster converter that's in my Nova's going in probably till he graduates.

I merged your two threads.
You are not getting much feedback because few people here know anything about the 200R4. Try a Pontiac Grand National forum.
Also noises are very hard to diagnose through a forum. And I hear nothing in your video.
Try using a mechanic's stethoscope to pinpoint the area.

Thanks, it's either the converter or the pump.
Either way, the trans guy is going to take it and we'll see what happens.
He'll fix what ever it is, then it will go up for sale.

You really can't hear the whine go up then down?
