if you floor your car what mph should it kick into last gear? mine doesnt seem to kick in last gear it seems like it stays geared low for a long while.

3.23 or 2.73?? With my 3.23 it didn't shift into fourth gear until an indicated ~140 mph almost.
Use this: http://www.f-body.org/gears/
FYI: It took me 30 seconds to find that through searching. Entered gearing calculator and searched, first thread i clicked on i scrolled down till I saw a website......boom there it was.

If you have a converter it'll shift at a few mph lower due to the looseness of the stall. With my 3.42's and vig 3200 i think it hits 4th around 125, i can't say for sure, who's looking at the dash when doing 125?

Anyway, as our car is not actually a B4C, I have heard a few people say that the B4C package is tuned differently and the PCM lets the car shift earlier (around 120) to achieve more MPH?? I don't know if this is true or not but my car never seems to get out of 3rd. I have the 3:42 gear, and it's a pain when I get up around 160 MPH...cars at 4500-5000 RPM
Anyone have insight on changing this?

At 100% tps, the stock shift point table says don't upshift from 3 to 4.
Here is a table I used for building/checking my shift points with 3.42 gears.
I ran it on up to 6700 rpms to match my limiter, but 6200 is the stock limit.
6700 is good for 201.8 mph in overdrive...

Hmm, maybe the older LS1 F-bodies had that, no 3-->4 shift. My 2001 SS used to shift into 4th at 135 with the stock converter, I have had my SS upto 160, just before the limiter. It was in 4th, the rpms came down after 135. Plus with my HPTuners program I verified the 3-->4 shift point, it is at 135MPH. I am not sure how my higher stall converter have affected this, since I have not made any top speed passes lately. K9KEV, look into HPTuners to adjust your shift points to where ever you want. This is a great software package at an affordable price!

But seriously, I'm thinkin that the 98-00 may not have been able to shift 3-4 without tuning.
I'm gonna look into the HP Tuner
Thanks

Mine would shift into 4th at 145mph @ 6300rpm with 3.23s. I haven't tried it since the gear swap, but I figure it's around 120 now since I'm turning ~ 6k ! 113 mph at the track (and I can take it up to 6500 rpm now).
