I've noticed there are a large numbers of auto F-bodys how do you like your auto LS1? Is there really that much of a performance increase/decrease?

They're great for drag racing with a stall. If I weren't planning on drag racing, I would have bought a 6-speed.

I love it when people tell me oh you should have gotten a 6-speed its faster! I just sit back and laugh! They dont even know what a stall is. Automatic with a big stall is just plain nasty!

Stock they pretty much suck, but woth a stall you can't beat an auto. I have run much quicker than most 6 speeds that have many more mods. They have more mph, but I get their first! ;D

Nothing beats beating a z06 out of the hole with a mostly stock stalled a4. If I never raced at the track I would of got a m6.

I get the same response from folks saying how my car is so much slower with an auto, should of got a manual ect ect. I've heard it all.

I wish I would've gotten an m6, I don't really go to the track, and I get killed on the highway by anything moderately fast. However, from a stop, or slow roll, they kick ***! Cam selection becomes limited though.

Autos use a torque converter to couple the engine to the transmission. The converter has slip in it which allows you sit at a read light with the motor running but moving the car. Stall speed is a measure of slip. From the factory, our stock converters stall to about 1600 - 1800. If you had awesome brakes, that would be the maximum brake stall you could hold before launching the car. To make an A4 fast, you need an aftermarket torque converter (aka "stall") with a stall speed of 2800 - 4400 rpm. This allows the engine to launch from the power band and can provide torque multiplication. The downside is a decrease in MPG and a somewhat mushy feeling.

Read up on the torque converter threads plastered throughout this forum. A 3000 - 3500 stall will do more for your car than those other planned mods that you list.
