The instructions that came with mine said to keep the rear wheels off the ground and let it idle in reverse and then in drive for 5 mins. while checking the trans fluid level.

I beleive John and Fuddle told me I didn't have to break it in. Go out and put the hammer down (I would make sure your fluid level is full first)

I let mine go through 50 lockup cycles before getting on it.

after the installation i rolled out on the highway and ate the tires for about 60'. i gave it no chance to "break-in" or anything else. however, i was and still am VERY cautious about the lock-up. as in...i'll haul *** to ~45mph and then ease off the gas so it will only drop a couple hundred rpm when it locks...versus going light throttle so at ~40 it drops from 3k to 1,400. plus i just can't keep my foot out of it.

That seems to be a common problem in the ls1 community.
