Why are most of you scared......
I see a lot of you guys hesitant on buying high stall converters. I've seen people post in here that they wouldnt go higher than a 2800 stall. Whats that? What ET/mph do you expect to gain over stock? Then theres the guys w/ h/c packages that wont go over a 3500 stall. You guys are killing your ET. I think its funny when some of you post your ET/mph and are dissapointed. Maybe it has something to do with that tight converter you have . I put a SS4000 in my completely stock car (w/ 3.73's). Never had any issues on the street or with gas milage. If you guys dont want a quick car, go buy a honda. Its saddening to see 400rwhp cars going 12.00 @ 115mph, when I went 12.10 @ 111 on a completely stock motor/suspension.

Because, just like buying a cam, most people don't know what to expect. I had never ridden in a higher than factory staled car before I added my TC. I was jumping in without checking the water first. I'm happy with the results, dropped .5 seconds in the 1/4 without tuning (and I need tuned).

What I was saying is, most people throw in a tight converter then complain about their slow ET despite their high hp/tq numbers.

Most people I run into think a 4000 isnt streetable, with lockup its just like driving a stock car, most people think my 3800 is alot smaller than it is until I get on it, and also find it hard to believe the mpg I get with it !

i would actually like to have a bigger conver for racing but i dont like low speed driving with it. some ppl say they cant feel the difference but i sure as hell can. maybe if i could make it lock up in 2nd gear or something, it would be different but as is i have to wait till at least 35mph in 3rd to lock up and it sucks sounding like im trying to race people when im really just trying to pace grandma in front of me who takes a full minute to reach 35mph

You can put a manual switch on it. Just be sure you release it when you are stopping.
As far as the big converter goes….. I have a TCI 4000 stall with 3.73 gears in my car and I truly hate to drive it on the street but it is great at the track. If my car were a daily driver I would have a 3200-3500 stall in it.

I agree, small converters are no fun. Hell I can drive mine around town all day without it getting annoying, so I don't see how people can find a 4k+ stalled 4l60 to be hard to do. I don't daily drive it since I have another car for that, but if I had to I would

ive been driving a 4300 stall no lockup with only 3 gears on the street and highway (in downtown chicago) for over a year... then again my car is nothing like yours... i need a high stall just to make the car move
and i was going 11.27 @ 123 with only 427rwhp

My fiance drove my car the other day for the first time, after driving a rinky-dink 95 Saturn SL1 for years, and said that it wasn't as bad as she thought it'd be.
I think that everyone should drive a well-tuned 4000 stall car before making up their minds. Mine is perfectly streetable. I won't go so far as to say that I don't notice the stall, but you adapt quickly, and I now prefer the 4000 by far to the stock stall. I don't even think about keeping it in D until 30 anymore, I'm just so used to it that I do it automatically.
If I listened to everybody's opinions on this forum, I wouldn't be near as far in my goals for ET's as I am. I just do my own research, find out what I think I will like, and then make my own, informed decision.
I damn sure don't let what people on some internet forum tell me what's unstreetable and what's streetable. If I did that, my car would be a garage queen, instead of a daily driver.
I challenge anybody in the area to come and drive my car, then tell me that it's unstreetable.
