Manual Valve Bodies
A mechanci told me my car has a Manual Valve Body. WHen I drive aroudn town though and put it in D or OD it shifts itself. I heard though if you have a manual valve body, you have to shift it yourself al the time. So does my car not have a manual valve body or is it able to shift itself. Also when I put it in D or OD it gets into the highest gear before i get to 25MPH. P.S. I'm pretty sure i have a TH-700R4 or 4L60.

Teh machanic said that it had a shift kit and that when I race, I have to shfit manually. I also could have swore he said a Manual Valve Body. I know when I have it in Od or D and floor it the car shifts around 4000 RPM if that helps.

I'm sure the tranny isn't stock. He was telling me how the Tranny looks rebuilt and has a shift kit. It also sounded like he said it had a reflashed Converter.I'm starting to think who ever had the car before me might have done a tranny swap. I know they started to use the 4L60E in 94. 93 had the 700R4 so maybe a 4l60e was swapped in?I just don't know how to tell the difference between trannies.

A manual valve body will never shift on it's own. The only way to make it "automatic" is to use a RPM activated shift solenoid on an aftermarket ratchet shifter. At least to my knowledge, that's the only way. I agree, I would look for a mechanic elsewhere!

93 Fbody's came with a 4L60, not a 700r4 or a 4L60E. the only diff. between a 700r4 and a 4L60 are some internal updates. both are TV cable operated. what the mechanic was prolly telling you is it has a shift kit in it, and that most shift kits make the trans an auto/manual operation. in otherwords, it will shift automaticaly if left in D or OD, but you CAN manually control the shifts if you put it in low or 2 gear. Id suggest manually shifting it also for best track results. I have a 700r4 (that I swapped in place of my M6) and when left in D while racing, it will not shift at the best RPM and each diff. gear will shift at a diff. rpm too.
BTW, they do make manual valve bodys for 700r4's and I believe (but not sure) it will also fit a 4L60, but not a 4L60E.

Alright thanks Irocss85. Your post helped me alot.I knew 93's had a 4L60 but most people get it confused with a 4L60E and since its alot like the 700r4, I just said the 700r4. Maybe the mechanic did say what you said. It was pretty heard ot hear him over all those machines.
