Default Car shifts extremely early, converer won't lock up, only when compressor is on

It's the strangest thing. It had been doing this from time to time in the past but I never made the connection until recently. Virtually anytime I have the compressor on the transmission shifts up at abnormally low rpm and once the converter is locked (in either D or OD) it will not unlock, no matter how much gas I give it.

Any ideas?

So while it's doing what you describe, can you turn off the a/c and make the problem immediately go away?

I could have been more descriptive. The change is not always immediate. It may take a short while or it may be very close to immediate.

Any updates on this? I seem to be experiencing the same issues.

This all started after my cam swap. It will shift at a low rpm into 2nd, then 3rd and the TC will lock. It happens pretty quick. If you floor it, it will just stay in 3rd with the TC locked. It will not downshift! I can manually throw it back into 2nd and it will be fine then shift it back the 3rd.

I don't forsee any issues with the transmission. I can hold it in 1st and manually shift with out any issues regular throttle and WOT all the way into 4th.

It is an intermittent problem - maybe 1 out of 8 times it will do this from a stop. I can tell immediatley when its going to do it because is shifts very quick out of 1st.

Any chance a faulty VSS would cause this issue?

Thanks,
David

ok so that rules out the 98 model thing. How do you guys have your cars tuned? mail order or dyno?

I also have an 01 Z28 that started the same thing. Mine does'nt just do it with the air on. I had it retuned by TSP and still does the same thing. Tried it today since I just got the ECM back, had the air on for a while, tried it same thing. Cut the air off for 30 minutes, same thing. I also have the MS3. I shift by hand car runs awesome, put in drive, shifts at 4500 and runs like a dog. After the cam swap was fine. Mine came afterwards when I put on my roller rockers. Probably wondering why I did'nt put them on with the cam? They did'nt come in time.

It's in the tune somewhere. My car used to do it as well. I've had three different tuners tune my car. I told the last tuner the problems I was having and he fixed them all. Your ac on tune is different than the ac off tune as well, from what I was told. My car would sometimes speed shift when I took off. It would go 1-2-3 before I even hit 25 mph.

The first tuner tried to fix it and I thought he did, but the problem came back and was horrible when the ac was turned on. He was flown in to tune, so he wasn't available to fix it and I wasn't sending my computer out to try and fix something he should've fixed to begin with. Needless to say it's perfect whether the ac is on or off now. Try to find someone that actually knows what they are doing or will at least spend some time on your tune. I'll never do a mail order tune, they're guessing at best and can only get close. Then if you do have problems it's cat and mouse sending your pcm back and forth.
