I start in 1'st to get it going then put it in 2nd and hold it at about 4500 for a few seconds.

Good question - i've been wondering the same thing.

my first outing to the track was a bit embarrising at the car's attempted burn out.
(this is my frist auto)

My friend with a 98 Z just leaves his in D and nails the gas - but he also has a 408 in there so....

Put the car in 3rd gear and leave it there while your going down the track.
Does fine with your burnouts. You don't really want to have the car in "D"
because that will activate your OD...Not a good thing. It actually cuts down
your ET because it drops your RPM so much. You want to keep your RPM up.
Oh Yeah,....if so equipped...Turn Off the Traction Control.
Enjoy

well when you are in manual it raises the line pressure and it also applies the overun clutches to give more holding power so its best to have it in manual range.

i doubt very seriously that you will shift into 4th under wot in the 1/4 mile i know mine has never done it but again leave it in 3 for drag racing you will have more clutches applied becuase the overun clutches will come on in manual 3 and 2 and 1 where they normally only come on on decel to give engine braking also the line pressure will be higher
