Default My trans died!!!!!!!!!!

3rd and 4th gear went out today. Thanksgiving of all days. 3rd & 4th are completely gone. I can't drive my car on the freeway, and i can barely drive it across town before the converter starts to heat the transmission. Now i'm pretty much forced into buying a DD this weekend and trying to get some resolution on the camaro. I can't get ahold of Rock-On by any means. Manual swap is too expensive. I'm at my wits end right now. Any suggestions before I loose my mind?

Is your car with the trans problems you daily driver? cuz mine is.

i will ******* tell you about wits end.

trans #1 - blown up before i got the car

trans #2 - rebuilt replaced the first. went out 1 week after getting the car. Senior year of high school. had the coolest car.....for a week, then had to go back to driving my honda for over a month till it got fixed. Enter....

Trans #3 - another rebuilt, failed last summer

trans #4 - Rock-on Stage 4, with TCI converter. After 5 weeks, the converter shredded itself apart doing a lot of damage

trans #5 - after 2months of downtime (this is my daily driver) i finally get my 2nd Rock-on stage 4 in November last year. This march it starts slipping. I have chaotic responses from Rock-On on how to fix it, and then they go belly-up. Then i loose 3rd and 4th gear, i got owned on Thanksgiving day on the way to grandma's house.

trans #6, about to be installed in the next week or 2.

are you sure it's 3rd and 4th gear and not 2nd and 4th gear? a lot of times people think their 3rd gear is gone when it's really their 2nd. does your trans take longer to shift out of first gear? like, does it need to be revved to ~2500 rpms just to shift? because if 2nd gear is gone, the 4L60E WILL shift 1st to 3rd, it'll just take more revving. if i'm right, you may just need a new sunshell, and a beast sunshell's only like 50 bucks.

i'm not exactly a transmission guru, but i'm just throwing it out there.

sounds like the 3-4s burned up to me
only gotta pull the bellhousing, pump, out. then the reverse input slides off and the 3-4s are sitting right on top the input drum. real freakin easy to change. only gotta pull the pan to pull out the TCC solenoid. but you still gotta ask yourself why they burned up so quick

yeah wtf man? you got me by a transmission or 2

you went through 5 or 6 of them? get a goddam th400. the only problem i had with mine was a stupid bushing that isn't going to cost me much to replace. it really isn't bad driving it around as long as you have some decent gears (like 3.42 or 3.23).

good luck man, you should really ask yourself if OD and lockup are worth it. it wasn't for me.

HELL NO it isn't my daily driver. no way- if it was i'd be taking the bus to work quite a bit.

For DD OD is a must and they can be built to handle the power just takes the right combination of parts and design mods is all

this may have been answered already but.. what was done about the cooler and the lines? are oyu still running through the radiator as well? seems to me that like someone else posted, there's another underlying issue here man... Good Luck, Tony

PS If any of that helps I am just repeating what Vince & Chuck and I am sure many others have already told the rest of us when things go bad..

I feel you GoFast... I have been through about 6 or more 4L60Es and that is with like no chance of driving my car (my only car, DD) even while I spent time in iraq still had tranny problems when I got back.... the Rock-On I bought, which I was assured was the 'end all tough s.o.b. easily handly my 450rwhp' didn't work off the bat. I had ALL garbage parts in my trans when it was ripped apart, and now RockOn tries to tell me that I must have swapped them out, because you know after 5 transmissions all I want to do is barely rip someone off and NOT drive my car ... ******* idiots, but ohohsilverado has the same problem as me with them.

Good luck to you, I thought it through, and I went with a Th400... transbrake and built for like a grand, can't beat that!

If your not concerned with an overdrive the 400 is a very good trans. 4l60e's can take some power when built right. Although I have seen some of the competitions units apart and in alot of cases the customer didn't get what they paid for. IMO. I will not mention names because that would be very unprofessional. But buyer beware. Vince

Looking I think some people got mutiple replys mixed up but anyway ,
yes the beast is between 35 and 60 dollars,
yes many people misrepresent whats in there transmissions thats why we state it in so much detail so you will know (legal stuff).
But as important as the parts are is how they are put together and the design of the shift kit and other mods ,
dont make the mistake of settling for the "we make this trans and it will do this ".
research ,learn and study then decide .
