You are correct. starts in 2nd. in fact, never goes in 1st downshift or other wise.
i have'nt ran the codes yet.(is on the list to do.)
other than the 1st gear issue, trans seems to shift fine.
fluid seemed fine when i changed the soleniods..
oh, the trans has 145k on it...

Im actually having the same exact problem, starts off in 2nd, even if i manually shift it to first it doesnt downshift to 1st. What is weird is last night i went for a drive and i had 1st, then i came to a stop light and no longer had 1st when i started moving again. I am thinking shift solenoid, because i had a problem with it a few months ago, seems electrical to me. No SES light though.

If i put it in 1st it does nothing, stays in 2nd, then i go from 2nd to 3rd to over drive

*UPDATE*
My problem has been solved.
apparently on blazers, the trans takes power from the ignition switch. i had 12V at the fuse block/switch. when you moved the gear selector into drive, the power dropped to 3V.
a $100 part and lots of labor later, i have a fully working trans. and i never even got under the truck....Hmmmm.
