As for all the wiring and such. To heck with it. I am going full manual via TransGo's stage 3 shift kit. I dont mind shifting the gears. I had a RMVB TH400 in the last car. It was fun.

All I wan to keep is the Speedo, and that leaves me wiring a Swith for the OD lock up.

Simple enough.
With hp tuners just send your file to keith@hp and he will have to convert it for you. The hp tuners that we have does not have the option to do this. Goodluck with the install.

Is the trans mount the same one as the 4l60e? I want to order an energy suspension poly trans mount since I am going solid motor mounts and poly torque, etc.

Default 4l80e 3rd gen camaro?

as we are talking about 4l80e swaps, i have an 89 camaro w/ls1-700r4. I just had the 700 rebuilt after it lost 3rd/4th at the track. when it broke i told my uncle (trans builder) that i wanted a 4l80e so i didnt have to worry about it anymore. he said i dont want that because its so heavy. whats the difference, 100 #s ? i would rather have the added weight and be reliable. I doubt if anyone in here has a 3rd gen car with a 80e, but if anyone does is the changeover the same? as in the mods to trans tunnel. i had to cut ears off the 700 bell for header clearence. stainless works headers were designed around 4l60e with full bellhousing or t56 i think. it would be too much of a pain if the bell on the 80e wouldnt clear the headers, as its a tight fit already. Anyone know if it is the same width as the 60e or is it a little wider? wiring issues- id go with tci tcu and get cool paddleshifters so im not worried there. I have a custom trans xmember already, and bmr would give me the parts for torque arm mount to weld to it, and i need a hoop too while im sticking more metal to it. any other issues?

I never got an exact weight but It was probably around 75lbs heavier if that. Alot of the reason it was so heavy was the stock converter was huge. As far as the size goes, it may be a tad wider but its not a major difference. I had to trim the ears off the bellhousing and maybe beat the tunnel a bit but not much.

Just started the install.

using an older 4l80e(pre 97).

Mine fit right in for the most part. Needed to cut off the ear on the driver side. I didn't beat the trans tunnel at all.

just put it in for fitment right now. should have the rest of it in by the ned of the week.

using the BMR trans mount.

I know I will need to do something where the harness plugs into the trans, as the plug on the trans is right on the tunnel wall, will see once I get there.

will post more pics later.

Has everybody who has done this swap had to cut a hole for the harness that ends up near the floor? Ive heard conflicting stories about beating the tunnel in some have had to some havent. I just wonder if all the 80's are the same in where the plug for the wiring is located. Dont really want to cut a hole in my floor as I saw one member on here did.

Thanks,
Nick

I don't see how yo ucan get around not cutting or smashing it in to make room. I don't have the connecter yet, But I doubt it will fit.

FMVB is how I did mine, but I like my rachet shifter.

Yes you have to cut the bracing on the driver side. I cut out a 4" by 4" square and banged it in to make it fit.

I am doing the swap with putting a 4L80E in, and I would like to keep my stock shifter. I bought a new GM bracket that bolts to the transmission that the shifter cable goes to, but it does not seem to be the right one. Does anyone have the part number for the right bracket?

i bought a used stock shifter, and it worked right onto the 4l80e shifter stud. The only modding i had to do was elongate the two holes on the bracket that bolts to the bottom of the tranny pan. I used a file, it worked awesome. let me know if you are still confused.

Mines a pre-99, I think a 96. Just about, any 2500-3500 GMC/Chevy HD truck will have one. 91-98 are all pretty much the same. Valvebody and everything. Works well inL LT1's with a manual valve body kit. Actually I'd recommend calling up carl rossler @ Rossler Transmission in Girard, OH. He's got a plug in FMVB kit that allows you to keep the valvebody stock, not to mention the trans brake kit too.

how different is the 4l80 from the 4l85 and do you know of anyone that sales everything needed for this conversion because I am sure this is a common swap. Also what would have to change if I went from a A4 to a A5?
