That is a bit of a loaded question. Meaning... is this a track application? What gears are your running?

The 4L60E has a low 1st gear compared to a bunch of automatics. When that unit is coupled with a non stock rear gear it can be a bit of a learning curve trying to get it into 2nd before hitting the rev limiter.

Not sure what you are asking Motown... are you asking opinions about going to a manually shifted stock 4L60E? If so, I do not recommend doing it. To do so would put undue stress on an already tired unit... if of course it is not being rebuilt at the time it is being converted to manual.

For the track with and auto version a properly uned PCM will do you best, If you want to go manual you should convert to full manual .

I like the consistancy that the computer gives me on the shift. Its usually no more than 100 rpm off from its usual shift points (using datamaster and comparing runs). My 2-3 line pressure also does better on the computer (with OD selected). The car has run VERY consistant this way. .005 of a second difference between runs in not uncommon for my car. So if you want consistant times at the track, let the computer do the work!

if your at the track let the comp do its job, if your on a roll and dont really care for your tranny, then drop it into a lower gear to keep the rpms up.. i wouldnt recommend that though

If it's an electronic trans, let the computer shift it. You aren't going to gain anything trying to shift it yourself

If the shift points are where you want them....... then leave it in "OD", not "D". There would be "no benefit" from you shifting it.

I dunno bout you guys but I don't even hit the top of 3rd at the track with a 3.42 A4, so in D or OD it will never hit 4th gear. At least not stock.

4l60-e means computer shifted. Let it do the work. I had a buddy shift to 2nd on a highway and pushed it. The end result was a hole in the block
