Default Noob question about Tranny fluid changing

I purchased my car in Sept. 2005 and it had roughly 20k miles on it and now I have roughly 52k on it. I do not know if the tranny fluid was ever changed before I purchased it and I have not changed it since I owned it. My tranny has never had problems and has always shifted fine. I just want to change it for my own peace of mind. I can have some guys at my work flush it and put new fluid in it but my main concern is should I change it since it hasnt been changed for so long? I read a bit on this and most people are on the line about it it seems. I was just wanting some insight on my scenario.

When the tranny is about to go and the fluid hasn't been changed ever then the fluid might be the only thing keeping it together. That's what I heard anyway. But when you got a good tranny with good fluid then change it. 50K is the recommended interval to change it I believe.

id change it im sure it has been serviced before that. shame on you for not changing your fluid for 30k. its the lifeblood of your tranny. wouldnt change your oil every 30k in your engine would you?

I don't think the problems are from just draining and replacing fluid. They are from the transmission "flushes" that force fluid through places and if there are any metal filings or anything they can be transported throughout the trans.

So drain/replace filter/refill is cool

The recommend service interval is 50k, so you're pretty much on schedule.
