Default Tips on installing dipstick tube/gromet?

What are you guys doing to successfuly instal these? Ive tried to push the tube in from the top but it doesnt seat all the way and leaks. As well as taking off the trans pan and pulling the tube threw from the bottom.

Mines leaking pretty bad when the car is on and Im not sure how to get it to stop.

Ideas?

Tony.

its much easier to have someone shake the tube around at the top while you push it in from underneath the car. This will help to fully seat it in the tranny...hope this helps!!

install it on the tube first, put some oil on the grommet, and get someone to wiggle it like said

Yup all of those things will work. I hate that damn dipstick. I cut an inch off of mine too. they are way too long to begin with. Also make sure you bend the bracket upwards towards the top of the motor. that way when you bolt it up, it is putting downward pressure to the seal on the tranny..

Just recently installed an FLT tranny - slid in the new grommet, installed
the tranny/bellhousing to the block, then slowly lifted the rear of the tranny
and from underneath, wiggled and pulled down on the tube and it simply
slid right into place. For me, I think the 'trick' was that the transmission
was not resting on its rear tranny mount - it was just slightly lower than that.

The seal needs to go in the trans first, put the tube straight in, if it's at an angle it can tear the seal.

If you want to test it make sure the fluid level is full and jack the drivers side up, it will leak if it's not right. If it only leaks when it's running you may have another problem.

The seal MUST go into the trans first. Put some Vaseline in the seal. Tube should slide right in . I think your attatchment bracket may be tweeked causing your problem. These boot style seals are the best and just don't leak. Also check the spot welds at the attatchment bracket. If they are broken, it will leak when you fill it and simulate the seal leaking when the fluid runs down the tube to the seal. Good luck.

The easiest way I've found is to never unbolt the tube from the head, and to guide the tube into the trans while jacking it up.

Personally, I do the same thing for the ease of installation.
