Default No first No DTC

My first gear has been going in and out for some time now, after I put the trans go shift kit in, I took it back to the shop two times and they went in and out of the kit and said it is in there right, Then i did get the 1-2 selenoid fault, (I thought it was becuase of my 4000 Stall) So i cleared it with HP and everything was working well, The car sat for two days and when I went to drive it today I had no First gear and no DTC, So i replaced the "A solenoid" 1-2 and still no first gear.. As of right now I have the bat. unpluged and going to try it in the morning.. Anyone have anyideas what it could be? im going to be in PINKS:All Out in Denver aug. 9th so im on a time limit and Cash limit.

If it is not recording DTC's then it is not a monitored condition, or reporting for the fault has been deleted in the tune.

Based on the fact that this happened immediately after the Shift Kit installation I would have to say the problem is in the hydraulic control system. Does the shop that you took it to have extensive experience with high performance 4L60E's or are they a "local shop" who rebuilds them?

If they do not have extensive experience in diagnosing these transmissions, if they do not handle the Trans-Go kits each and every day, if they do not specialize in them it would be difficult to say that they would be the correct professionals to ask to help out in a case like this. Not a shot at them at all.... it's just that these units are not easy to take to the next level.

Feel free to give me a call... I wouldn't mind kicking it around with you. We might find a solution that would enable you to get to the race.

well it lasted a month and a half when they did the trans go the 2nd time.. Then after we put the new cam in the whole thing started over.. Not alot of Fbody or 4L60E shops around my area that do that kinda work and know what they are doing.. Most of them are Mustang shops ect..

well the shop took a look at the shift kit.. every thing is where it needs to be.. He is going to take the trans a part and see what he can find.. blahh.. How hard would it be to do a 700R4 swap? Its the same thing right?

A 700 is not the answer to your problem. I would suspect that you have a code that is being set that is keeping the trans from having first gear or an internal transmission issue.

A few questions,
1-has the car been tuned for the 4.10 gears?
2-Has the car been tuner for the 4000 stall?
3-have you tried deleting the test for PO751 and PO757 (assuming one of those was the code you got)

The fact you cleared the code once and it starting working correctly makes me wonder if one of these might actually be your issue,

Ask your shop if they have a schafter shifter box or break out box by chance they could verify the trans function with that also and that would tell you where to look also.
Regular trans shops generally know nothing about tuning for high stalls etc and will be chasing there tails trying to solve the issue

Yes, I did tune it for the high stall, and i set P0757 (756 on mine) and P0751 to -3 no report.. I dont think the shop has a break out box.. I think its computer too but Nothing shows up and I was all out of ideas so I let them go into it.. The Hptuners link has my Tune on it..

If you would like I can send you plans to build a simple version of a schafter shifter of sorts so you can test if you want to totally eliminate the trans?

I wonder if there is an issue with the 1-2 shift valve in the shift kit. Circled in read in the pic below. This uses a modified valve that has a hole drilled in it and in the end of the valve should be a gold ball and then a green spring. Make sure that there is not debris or a chunk of metal flashing in the valve. I have seen brand new valves have crap in them from trans go. Also note that the line up is correct from left to right, the 1-2 shift valve spring(white/pink looking), the 1-2 shift valve, gold ball inside the end of the valve, green spring, and then the shift solenoid. Here is a picture of the line up.

Sorry not to mention it sooner. Was just sitting here watching the Cubs game with the grill going smoking some ribs and just thought of it. My wife is bitching that I need to get off the computer and finish cleaning the inside of my sons TV. I hate being home! Let us know what you find. Vince

It should make the assembler go into limp mode.

No first and burned clutches means it was slipping and just going to second, limp mode or not.

Well Turns out my First and 2nd gear Cluths where all burnt up.. Re built the trans.. 1000$, He said the Trans-Go Shift kit was junk.. He called Trans-go and they would not tell him how to fix it... So he put an extra spring in behind the 1st valve to keep 2nd gear from flooding and locking out first..(or something like that..)
Well He worked all night and got the trans in 1 hour Before i had to take the car to pinks..but i MADE IT! I wasnt picked but its ok it was still fun to be on the show!
Best time of 12.8 @ 106, I have more i just need to learn how to drive the car.. Thanks guys for all your info and help..
